Solid Power is Hiring a Battery Scientist (Solid State Electrolyte) Near Louisville, CO

Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Battery Scientist (Solid State Electrolyte) to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will work closely with both the R&D and cell engineering teams accelerating identification of key materials and design parameters to enable widescale deployment of Solid Power’s ASSB technology

Job Duties:

  • Develop criteria for evaluating and screening candidate solid state electrolyte materials/grades, including identification/development and documentation of appropriate characterization techniques
  • Develop and/or support the development of models connecting fundamental materials properties (electrochemical, physical, mechanical) to cell level performance (power, life, safety)
  • Identify opportunities for cell performance optimization, cost reduction or improved manufacturability through materials optimization
  • Work with quality, manufacturing, and cell development team as subject matter expert to support root cause failure analysis activities
  • Elaborate and manage formal materials specifications, communicating with vendors (internal and external) as appropriate to align on inspection methods and frequency
  • Support FMEA efforts as a subject matter expert
  • Support electrode design and manufacturing efforts as a subject matter expert
  • Develop, execute, analyze, and present the results of DOEs in support of materials, electrode or cell optimization efforts.
  • Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemistry or Materials Science with a focus on developing and characterizing solid state electrolyte material for Lithium-ion battery applications
  • Knowledge of inorganic chemicals/synthesis/production process is strong plus
  • Strong foundation in statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience
  • Strong foundational understanding of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes.
  • Familiarity with electrode slurry formulation, and coating processes and complementary characterization techniques
  • Familiarity with approaches to material scaling (volume production)
  • Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences

Salary Range: $62,000 - $111,000/year
