What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supply Chain Manager position at Sofar Ocean?
The Role
The Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for the management and execution of Sofar Ocean’s global supply chain; that includes developing a strategic supply chain base, procurement/planning, logistics, inventory management and fulfillment. The right fit for this role is collaborative, enjoys working with cross functional teams, thrives in a fast-paced creative-chaos environment, and can be strategic and tactical (not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get dirty). You like the challenge of a startup and are excited about taking on responsibility while scaling Sofar’s supply chain to infinity and beyond. This is a position of leadership, and it is important that the right fit for this role understands the influence and impact that comes with that. This role reports directly to the Head of Supply Chain and Manufacturing. This is an onsite role based in San Francisco, CA.
Impact you will own:
- Manage all supply chain team members and functions in a tactical and strategic methodology/process (ERP/MRP, planning, procurement, inventory management, logistics)
- Implement industry best practices for Bom management, forecasting, sourcing, risk mitigation, inventory, logistics and vendor management
- Develop capabilities and supply chain initiatives to support supply chain performance over a multi-year horizon
- Manage the Demand Plan/Fulfillment coordination with Sales, Operations and Production
- Monitor core supply chain performance KPI’s, including delivering against customer demand, internal production requirements, inventory, and cost objectives
- Maintain strong relationships and communications directly with all suppliers, to confirm production/shipping schedules to ensure on-time deliveries
- Collaborate effectively with internal cross-functional teams to identify cost savings opportunities and define and improve processes
- Provide transparency and direction to the executive team, team members, and peers
- Proactively report FG and incoming material availability issues, monitor daily ERP/MRP data; revise essential system planning data to ensure ERP/MRP system is effectively planning future requirements economically and efficiently
- Manage inventory, Kanban, material consumption and cycle-count processes
- Support cost negotiations, payment terms, MSA’s and ongoing long-term cost reductions
- Work closely with Engineers/NPI/Production personnel to develop and/or understand part specifications and order requirements
- Review, analyze and clarify quote packages per NPI and final supplier selection process
- Monitor the cost, schedule, quality and other performance factors of major subcontractors and suppliers (report card analysis)
- Actively mentor and train other supply chain associates
- Manage purchasing documentation to ensure compliance with all internal requirements
- Work with QA/Mfg./Engineering to drive continuous quality improvements with all suppliers
- Support receiving activities include receipt of goods verification against BOL’s/packing slips/invoices and reject management of material
You have:
- BS in supply chain, finance, or industrial engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 6 years of direct supply chain experience with minimum of 5 FTE reports
- Adept at communicating complex issues in a convincing manner to a variety of audiences, both written and verbal
- High proficiency in Excel/Google sheets (advanced)
- Excellent working knowledge of ERP/MRP/PLM with a solid understanding of internal/external manufacturing, Bom management, product lifecycle management, procure to pay processes and overall supply chain operations.
- Highly experienced in electro-mechanical products/components (pcba’s, cables, machining, sheet metal, casting, 3D printing, various molding techniques) in NA and APAC countries
- Experience in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with wearing multiple hats at once, with a keen understanding of urgency, ownership, and timing.
- Track record of promoting a culture of high performance and accountability
- Strong communication/relationship building skills, including stakeholder management skills
- Fast-thinking, collaborative and able to communicate clearly and effectively. You can talk through difficult issues with colleagues and make decisions based on evidence and argument, not ego or title

- Business acumen and stature to gain immediate respect and credibility from team members, stakeholders, and strategic suppliers

- You have strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills
Bonus points:
- CPIM/CSVP/CLTD or equivalent certification
- Direct experience with internal manufacturing
- Experience/certification in Lean, Quality Management, 6 Sigma
Estimated Salary Range:
- $125,000 - $150,000
- The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.
