OBJECTIVE SUMMARY:  In partnership with the, Director of Strategic Communication, the Director of Foundation and Community Development will lead this exciting, dynamic organization’s fundraising and community development activities. Functioning as Snoqualmie Valley Health’s principal major gift fundraiser, the successful candidate will help forge new relationships, develop key external alliances, and cultivate philanthropic support to build Snoqualmie Valley Health’s visibility, impact and financial resources. As lead strategist for fund development, the Director will design and implement a comprehensive, multi-year plan for increasing voluntary contributed revenue received from annual and major gifts solicitation, special events, and corporate and foundation support. The Director also serves as the Executive Director for the Snoqualmie Valley Health foundation – an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization charged with providing financial support that enhances the quality and availability of healthcare services and programs provided by Snoqualmie Valley Health. The Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and to the Snoqualmie Valley Health Board of Directors; serves as a key member of Snoqualmie Valley Health leadership team; and participates actively in making strategic decisions affecting Snoqualmie Valley Health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provides inspirational leadership for the Foundation Board and staff.
  • Collaborates with the Board and staff to develop, propose, execute and report on strategies, plans, projects and programs that achieve the purpose and objectives of the Foundation.
  • Establishes appropriate measures and indicators of progress and achievement of objectives.
  • Builds effective relationships with SVH and Foundation leadership and staff, contractors, board members and volunteers, and with external parties such as community organizations, government representatives, foundations and societies, and the community at large.

 Donor Relations and Fund Development

  • Designs and implements plans to obtain sufficient funds to meet Foundation goals and support the needs of SVH.
  • Qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and ensures the effective stewardship of a growing, sustainable base of prospects and donors from all sources capable of giving $1,000 and more annually
  • Personally drives and expands the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects capable of giving $50,000 or more over time.
  • Builds mutually respectful relationships with past and prospective donors.
  • Engages donors in imagining and realizing significant improvements in the overall health of the entire Snoqualmie Valley.
  • Regularly reviews and optimizes donor relationship strategies.
  • Provides for the appropriate, ongoing recognition of donors.
  • Ensures the reputation of SVH and the Foundation in the community is sustained and enhanced.
  • Develops the profile of the Foundation/SVH by participating in discourse on healthcare at the local, regional and national levels.

Identify Opportunities and Funding Priorities

  • Works with the Foundation Board and SVH leadership to identify opportunities and priorities for the Foundation to support improvement and/or sustain healthcare in the Snoqualmie Valley.
  • Identifies opportunities and prepares business cases and project plans for Foundation investments in facilities, equipment, training, and research.
  • Identifies grant opportunities; produces grant proposals and reports.

 Operations and Administration

  • Directs/performs all Foundation administrative functions, including budgeting, financial management and reporting, and policy administration.
  • Oversees gift entry and acknowledgement, database management, and donor research and stewardship activities at all levels.
  • Ensures the effective recruitment, development, performance and support of Foundation staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Establishes a respectful workplace environment and implements effective and efficient practices for the execution of Foundation work.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and statutory/regulatory requirements.

 Support Board Governance and Direction

  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with the Foundation Board and supports the Board’s effective operation and governance.
  • Develops and proposes policies that ensure accountability, transparency and appropriate risk management.
  • Organizes and facilitates regular Board meetings, committee meetings and special meetings and retreats.

 Community Relations

  • Performs vital work outside the office, often after normal business hours.
  • Attends and/or hosts a range of fundraising events, new program inaugurations and community relations events.
  • Speaks directly with reporters, donors, government representatives and members of the community at these events, spending a good deal of time acting as the public face of the organization.
  • Engages regularly in 1:1 meetings and spends time cultivating relationships with donor, potential donors, and other community partners.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and a range of external stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with other nonprofit leaders, looking for opportunities to partner with other organizations to serve good causes.
  • Works personally with leaders in the business and government world, cultivating long-term strategic partnerships and/or donor relationships to increase the organization's effectiveness in serving unmet needs.
  • Brings to the organization an established set of business and professional contacts that can be of significant value to an organization's mission.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: In addition to being a highly energetic, enthusiastic professional with management experience and a track record of building donor relationships and closing major gifts in the six-to-seven-figure range, the successful candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in field of public relations or development; Master’s degree highly preferred. Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 10 years of professional fundraising experience including directing a successful capital campaign of $15M , major gifts and

planned giving programs.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: 5 years of supervisory experience.

Ability to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals and families interested in a philanthropic partnership 

SKILLS: Ability to actively engage in working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with grateful patients, families and others in the private philanthropic community sector, as well as other key communities, that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals. Proven ability to manage and motivate volunteer leadership.
