Snohomish Conservation District is Hiring an Education and Outreach Program Manager Near Remote in Lake Stevens, WA

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Education and Outreach Program Manager

Terms: Regular full-time position (40hrs/week), with benefits
Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 annually

Position Summary
This position will provide programmatic oversight and staff supervision for the Snohomish Conservation
District’s (SCD) Education and Outreach Program. This innovative, creative team of community
engagement, adult and youth education, and media specialists provides support to all SCD programs –
including Agriculture, Habitat Restoration, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, and District Operations.
This position will report directly to the Executive Director and serve on the management team.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The Communications and Outreach Program Manager will lead the following tasks:

  • Work with the Education, Outreach, Youth Education, and Management Teams to develop the
strategic vision and priorities of the program.
  • Develop grant proposals and manage project and program budgets. Oversee project
implementation.
  • Develop strategic communication and education plans and oversee their execution for grant
programs, city contracts, and campaigns.
  • Engage diverse communities through social media and targeted engagement.
  • Participate in regional and statewide communications work groups and committees.
  • Support regional initiatives, such as BetterGround.org and Orca Recovery Day.
  • Provide executive communications support to the leadership team, including outreach material
for elected officials, policymakers, and funders.
  • Supervise a team of specialists. Develop annual work plans, training plans, and conduct annual
performance evaluations.
  • Lead the coordination of recognition events for partners and conservation leaders.
  • Participate in and help coordinate select outreach events.
  • Continue to hone the SCD brand through storytelling, events, and earned media. Manage
positive relationships with the press.
  • Oversee production of all public-facing documents including press releases, web content, annual
reports, and event flyers, in coordination with the SCD Writer/Editor.
  • Manage a high-paced production workflow with shifting priorities and needs while tracking
products and outcomes for grant and other reporting purposes.
  • Support internal communication mechanisms that help ensure a broad understanding of district

efforts and activities among the staff and the board.
Job Qualifications
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

A bachelor’s degree in communications, natural resources, education, or related field; proven leadership
abilities; and five years of professional experience, preferably working in the environmental field.
Additional qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the education requirement.

  • Experience in program management and staff supervision
  • Experience managing contracts and consultants
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and writing
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse community members and partners
  • Demonstrated skill in developing outreach and behavior change strategies for the public
  • Ability to deliver strategic communications to elected officials and funders
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Knowledge of local and regional conservation issues
  • Valid, unrestricted Washington State driver’s license

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Master’s degree in communications, natural resources, education, or related field
  • 3 years’ experience in program management and/or staff supervision
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp, and other outreach/media software
  • Experience in project management software (e.g., Smartsheet)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to:

  • Sit or stand for long periods of time in a standard work-day
  • Drive a vehicle for long periods when travel is needed. Must hold a valid, unrestricted
Washington State driver’s license (or have the ability to acquire upon hire).
  • Work in all-weather types and on uneven terrain
  • Lift, pull, carry, push up to 40lbs
  • Occasionally bend, twist, squat, climb, kneel/crawl, reach overhead
  • Occasionally work beyond an 8-hr workday or on the weekend
  • Comply with District COVID protection protocols, including being fully vaccinated and providing

documentation of vaccination status.

Work Location
The position will work out of our Lake Stevens office with the option to work remotely part of the time.
