What are the responsibilities and job description for the Western US Region Business Development Manager (BDM) position at SMT, Corp.?

JOB SUMMARY: The Western US Region BDM is responsible for achieving the territory’s orders budget; identifying and developing new opportunities and new customers; assessing and communicating customer needs; and positioning the APC / SMT Corp value proposition. As customer needs are identified, the BDM is responsible for driving the sales process, working with the customer and internal company resources, to capture business. The BDM coordinates effectively with SMT Sales & Sourcing and APC Product Management teams to develop new opportunities with current customers and support existing business.

The Western US region primarily consists of CA, WA, AZ, NV, CO, and UT. The Western US Region BDM will be ideally based in the Southern California, San Francisco Bay, or Denver area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify and develop new accounts and new opportunities in the Western US territory for APC and SMT Corp products and services.
  • Develop a robust and growing sales pipeline for the territory.
  • Understand and position the APC / SMT Corp value proposition to customers.
  • Analyze the territory’s customers, competitors, and markets with respect to APC and SMT Corps’s capabilities.
  • Networking both traditional and electronic (social selling).
  • Effectively interface with internal stakeholders, customers, and representatives to champion and win new business, and secure existing business.
  • Partner with SMT Corp. Sales & Sourcing and APC Product Management teams to advocate for the customer and develop a deep understanding of customer needs and market trends within the region.
  • Gain critical intelligence regarding new business opportunities to increase win probability and best support customer needs.
  • Respond rapidly to incoming leads for potential business.
  • Implement and execute sales campaigns and activity in target market areas / sectors.
  • Develop and execute key account development plans in cooridation with SMT Corp. Sales & Sourcing and APC Product Management teams.
  • Develop and lead opportunity capture plans.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In conjunction with the Sales VP, SMT Corp. Sales & Sourcing, and product leads - contribute to the formulation of the sales ‘bookings’ plan.
  • All opportunities across the account base to be tracked and consistently updated within the company CRM and quote tracking systems.
  • Provide accurate and timely monthly forecasts for region.
  • Assist with company marketing and sales promotion activities, seminars, trade shows, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience Years: 5-8 years
  • Experience Type: Aerospace and Defense
  • Proven verbal and written presentation and commercial skills.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • US Citizen or green card holder

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to scout, qualify & capture new business opportunities.
  • Superior follow up skills to drive and close on actions for leads, opportunities & issues.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with customers, sales partners and internal personnel to facilitate the capture of new and existing business.
  • Pre-existing relationships with DOD tier 1 and tier 2 contractors.
  • Ability to engage at multiple levels within a customer including senior management, engineering, quality, program management and supply chain.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to sell & promote to both external & internal customers.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Proficient with major CRM tools and usage.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Sales experience related to any of the following: semiconductor technology, MIL-STD testing and sourcing services, supply chain management, test & measurement, power, processors, time sync products, and a wide range of electronics components.

Compensation: Compensation will consist of a base salary plus a monthly bonus based on a percentage of all sales in the region for the prior month. Typical company benefits.

Pay: $48,936.00 - $76,667.00 per year
