The Nursing Assistant performs direct and indirect care under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse. The Nursing Assistant promotes collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Accepts delegated responsibilities. Documents vital signs on appropriate forms, as well as, reports abnormals immediately to appropriate nursing personnel. Weigh patients daily. Provide nutrition and water to patients. Offer baths to patients daily. Maintain accurate I&O. Prepare patient rooms for new admissions and assist the nurse with new patient admissions. Transferring/transporting of patients as necessary. Update information on patient white boards. Clean the nourishment refrigerator, once per week, on Saturday. Assist with keeping the unit in compliance with EOC rounds. Keep the linen room clean and neat. Keep supply room clean and neat. Put away stock supplies upon delivery. Tidy patient rooms, change linens, empty garbage cans throughout the shift, as needed. Strip beds of discharged patients to prepare for cleaning by Disinfection Team. Assist the patient to perform ADL’s, turning, positioning and hygiene as needed by the individual patient. Responds to internal/external disasters as directed. Participates in staff meetings, educational programs, QI activities and mandatory in-services. Unit specific skills checklist and competencies completed prior to end of 90 day evaluation. Picks up and delivers medications from Pharmacy to Nursing Unit. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Preferred: 1 year experience in clinical setting. High School Diploma. Required: Formal training in an approved Nursing Assistant program or equivalent experience.
