Singer Equipment Company, Inc is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near Paterson, NJ

Overview

The Transportation Manager reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible for managing all aspects of the transportaton function of the Singer network of warehouses in multiple states, based in the Paterson, NJ location. The Transportation Manager will also oversee all fleet equipment and is responsible for cost of operation and achievement of financial budgets. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team with extensive knowledge of logistics and in-depth practical skills in complex environments.
  • Identify, prevent, resolve, and improve transportation issues with deep working and technical knowledge of transportation management systems.
  • Develop and manage an effective transportation data collection and reporting system.
  • Effectively manage and coordinate all aspects of logistics (especially transportation) across the business with clients.
  • Assist with the development of new processes while providing broad insight of transportation to help move the company forward.
  • Ensure team’s transportation operations functions are performed in a timely and smoothly with all carriers and operations departments.
  • Train and develop an assigned transportation team to have a working knowledge of the main operational tasks for their role.
  • Analyze large data sets using computer software skills to develop insights and conclusion for the team and company.
  • Respond promptly to transportation inquiries from the team members, other department, or clients and resolve together.

  • Negotiate, execute and manage Master Service Agreement (Contract, Appendix, Amendment) against the carriers to eliminate and/or reduce the risk for the company.
  • Manage key metrics for logistics carriers with scorecards and various conference calls.
  • Develop and manage team’s KPIs, ROIs, SOPs, Initiatives, and values.
  • Monitor metrics, identify areas of improvement, and implement action plans for continual improvement of the team and organization.
  • Regularly communicate with human resource department and make action plans focused on attracting and retaining new members.
  • Carry out the personnel management activities related to screening and selection, orientation training and development, performance management, and employee functions.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics Related field preferred
  • Six (6) plus years of relevant work experience in Transportation/Supply Chain required
  • Two (2) plus years of operating in a large scale operations environment and management role required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize time sensitive situations in a face paced environment
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be able to learn and regularly operate various computer systems across different platforms
  • Ability to listen, engage and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience working with union contracts and transportation-related government regulations
  • Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations
  • Good conflict resolution skills
