First and foremost, we're looking for someone who's curious — curious about the role digital experiences play in higher education and passionate about the role interactive design and user interface design play in the frontier of visual communication. Beyond that, the ideal candidate will extend that curiosity across industries and topics, informing a fully realized point-of-view. This candidate will have 3 or more years of experience working in an agency environment with a track record of cross-team collaboration and a portfolio that demonstrates a range of ability and experience.

As a senior interactive designer at SimpsonScarborough, you are given the opportunity to work in a tight-knit team to create compelling digital experiences for a range of major higher education brands – from Ivy League to state flagships, to selective private colleges. You will lead the design of complex user interface systems that are foundational for user interaction across multifaceted university websites. You will closely collaborate with our UX Team to ensure that user needs are met, and with web developers to incorporate technical requirements, as well as spend time collaborating with our interdisciplinary design team.

Everything we do is informed by a foundation of market research and strategy, which opens up opportunities for us to create work that is both evidence-based and emotionally compelling. Our ideal candidate will have the ability, and desire, to merge analytical and intuitive thought into one cohesive story.

Responsibilities include:

• Deliver next-level visual designs that stunningly and functionally communicate our client’s brand via the user interface.
• Design and advance rapid prototypes of new experiences that will drive value for users
• Think systematically about incremental and new features that are designed to connect differently with multiple user/audience segments
• Express empathy for users in your work by creating user interfaces that are intuitive and considerate of the needs, desires, and expectations of the experience
• Extending brand standards into pattern libraries and functional digital design systems
• Collaborating with the UX team and developers, to uncover new opportunities to improve user experience.
• Present designs and supporting insights to align a wide variety of stakeholders internally
• Building out pages in the CMS once development is complete. Ensuring any supporting page builds done by other team members meet the highest standards of quality.
• Ensuring designs meet WCAG standards
• Staying up with industry trends and keeping our digital experience deliverables cutting edge

Qualifications:

• We believe in research, so we did ours. Relevant work experience is not a predictor of future performance. Both a bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent practical experiences will be treated equally
• Minimum of 5 years professional experience.
• Proficient in Adobe CS (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), and Microsoft products (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
• An outstanding portfolio demonstrating proven skills in understanding of the fundamentals of visual communication and design, including color theory, visual organization/composition, information hierarchy, aesthetics, typography, use of icons, layout and photo manipulation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, organizational skills and the ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment.

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary range begins at $65,000 and will extend based on candidate experience and capability.
