The Operational Risk Manager will focus on completing risk assessment with participation from Silvergate’s operating activities, including high-value, digital, and foreign payments. The Operational Risk Manager will enhance Issues Management, risk process and policy writing, committee reporting, and assembling critical risk management reporting material. Participate in assessing, tracking, and reporting results of various risk management activities with special project coordination as the need arises.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Partner with business and technology leaders to identify emerging risks and facilitate risk and control assessment across the enterprise
• Maintain enterprise-wide risk and control registers
• Manage Issue Management process and lead issue reporting and tracking
• Collaborate with risk teams for committee material and analysis
• Perform risk research , analysis, and formulate recommendations to identify trends and/or process control breakdowns
• Update policy and procedures for various risk programs
• Assess losses for risk and processes, including determining if a control gap exists
• Identify external and internal events that might impact the business, assess implications, and recommend approaches to mitigate resulting risks
• Will manage a team and be responsible for hiring staff as necessary
• Escalation of risk incidents or matters requiring oversight from various committees
• Not to harm consumers with any act that could be misleading, unfair, deceptive, or abusive in act or practice
• Maintain current knowledge of all federal and state laws and regulations, along with the Company’s policies and procedures

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Bachelor’s degree
•  5 years' of operational risk management in the first or second line of defense
• Proven individual contributor, able to manage priorities
• Deep understanding of compliance and risk management within financial institutions
• Developing, tracking, analyzing, and reporting on risk-related assessments and functions 
• Excellent policy writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

BANK SECRECY ACT REQUIREMENTS

Responsible for adhering to the reporting and recordkeeping requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering rules and regulations, observing economic sanctions by prohibiting transactions as specified by the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), following the Company’s customer identification program (CIP) rules, observing all Company policies and procedures relating to BSA, OFAC, CIP, and related acts, and participation in ongoing related training.
