SILVER STAR is Hiring a Network Technician II Near Freedom, WY

General Summary:

Perform highly skilled duties related to installation and maintenance, network analysis and troubleshooting, design recommendations, documentation, task implementation. Provides advanced technical support through a process of escalation for both internal and external demands.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Test, analyze, and troubleshoot Network equipment and software applications to ensure optimal system performance and stability.
  • Monitors and maintains connectivity across a core and distribution network to provide the highest level of availability possible for a combination of voice, video, and data services. Utilizes current monitoring software to review all alarms, log files, and operating conditions to identify potential failures.
  • As required, will install, provision and maintain both the virtual and physical network elements with the LAN/WAN, to include cloud-based deployments.
  • Participate in outage discussions to analyze data and make recommendations for network hardening, redundancy, and availability.
  • Provision and document static IPv4 / IPv6. Monitor usage and ensure no discrepancies between IPAM, Router, and billing software
  • Interact with customers to validate requirements of service orders or statements of work, coordinate technical support activities that provide a favorable outcome for the customer.
  • Stay current with software updates, patches, bug fixes on all managed network elements.
  • Stay educated through industry resources on known security threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, and others to mitigate risk to the company.
  • Implement advanced security procedures to prevent, detect, isolate, contain, and recover from network intrusions or failures.
  • Provide advanced technical support as Tier 2 escalation and provide training back to Tier 1 technicians and external customers as appropriate.
  • Participate in researching and developing new technologies to the extent of compatibility within the production network and provide recommendations to management.
  • Design, document, and model multiple recovery plans to utilize in the event of a critical network failure.
  • Comply with CALEA (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) and Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) rules and regulations.
  • Be the face of Silver Star Communications, ride for the brand, and do your part to achieve personal, department, and company goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent networking certifications. Four years’ experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining LAN and WAN based software, hardware, and server systems.
  • A low voltage technician license is preferred.
  • Cisco Certified Enterprise (CCNA) certification is required.
  • Cisco Certified Service Provider (CCNP) Core is preferred.
  • Must have an advanced knowledge of Networking and TCP/IP protocols.
  • Working knowledge in network server, firewall, desktop operating systems, Network security practices/safeguards, Ethernet, VLAN, TLAN, MPLS, BGP, SR, SONET, DWDM, VOIP, H248, ATM, and fixed wireless transmission protocols.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards for copper and fiber network cabling and testing.
  • Working knowledge of the Calix hardware and software suite.
  • Working knowledge of MetaSwitch voice and application services.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot, analyze, and correct complex problems associated with hardware, software, networks, and peripherals related to the LAN and WAN environments.
  • Ability to provide circuit support for activating and maintaining Ethernet and TDM circuits.
  • Maintain complex LAN and WAN system infrastructures.
  • Ability to provide after hours support on a rotational on-call basis and to work off-hours as needed.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact and diplomacy.
  • Proven analytical skills, work requires continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Resourceful, roll up the sleeves attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically persist until goals are achieved.
  • Adheres to all corporate policies, processes, and procedures as defined within the employee handbook or standards defined within department level objectives.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the Network Level I Technician.
  • Ability to hold a valid Wyoming or Idaho Driver’s License.
