Silgan Specialty Packaging LLC is Hiring a Lead Maintenance Technician Near MEQUON, WI

Description

Summary: The Lead Maintenance Technician will be responsible for coordination of repairs, troubleshooting and expertise in functionality of all machinery, high speed robotics, automation, and plant support equipment. This includes troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic circuits with the aid of schematics and repairing electric circuits with complete understanding of electrical schematic diagrams. This individual provides daily direction, mentoring and assists subordinates in performing their normal job duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Includes, but are not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Execute policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Lead and coordinate daily maintenance activities.
  • Facilitate preventive/reactive maintenance tasks and labor using IQMS.
  • Advance departmental goals by assisting in the creation of maintenance systems, Maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate records including but not limited to, creation of work instructions, purchasing, machine documentation, lean manufacturing systems, key metrics, and part inventory.
  • Specify and purchase MRO items to support production.
  • Meet and coordinate activities with suppliers and vendors. May vet out new potential vendors/suppliers.
  • Participate in meetings to facilitate continuous improvement projects as well as new projects.

Food Safety 

  • All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager. 

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability and physical demands required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required and a minimum of five years of applicable maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment and a working understanding of robotics and automation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with repairing plastic injection molding machines and related equipment desired. Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and a basic industrial level electrical/PLC skills a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals. Understand and interpret electrical schematics and panel drawings. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees within the organization as well as vendors, suppliers, contractors and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Understand and carry out instructions given in written, verbal or diagram form. The ability to effectively prioritize activities and conduct duties with minimal supervision is important. The ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions where limited information exists.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to work with Microsoft Office software (basic Excel, Word, Outlook) required. Experience with an ERP system preferred. 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to instruct other individuals in safe operation of equipment. Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications. Strong mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance skills, ability to troubleshoot and repair all production facility equipment. Proficient in the following trades: Welding, electronics, air compressor, machine shop, hydraulics, and electrical maintenance. Use of precision measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers and various meters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires regular standing, walking, manipulating hands, wrist and fingers to grasp tools and parts as well as reaching with hands and arms. Required to carry up to 50lbs up to 10 feet. Occasionally lift 75lbs (various pieces of equipment) from floor to waist level. Required to initiate push/pulling forces of up to 40lbs and sustained forces of up to 20lbs for a distance of up to 100 feet.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The primary location of this position is a “climate controlled” environment. The noise level on the manufacturing floor is loud. 

The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times when performing in this role while on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection. Food Safety protective equipment is required at all time while on the manufacturing floor: including hair nets, gloves and, if applicable, beard nets.
