Shriners Children's is Hiring a Clinical Pharmacist Near Boston, MA

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, role requirements include clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy operational functions and pharmacy student oversight and teaching. This position seeks a candidate that will be the pharmacist leader in the department’s operational functions including oversight of USP <797> and <795> related activities.

Clinical responsibilities include pharmaceutical management and oversight of pediatric patients treated for their specialty care. Specialty care includes burn care, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial, urology, orthopaedics and other pediatric surgery specialties.

Responsibilities

In addition to the responsibilities as operational functions lead, responsibilities include:

  • Attend morning rounds with the medical team and patient care services staff and contribute to the drug therapy management of patients.
  • Utilize the hospitals electronic medical applications and records to analyze patients’ profiles; oversee, evaluate and verify drug therapy orders.
  • Provide quality and timely advice to medical and clinical staff regarding incomplete orders, drug interactions, drug incompatibilities, overdoses and potential toxic effects among others; assist with medication reconciliation at admission, post-operatively and discharge.
  • Assist in inventory management of controlled and non-controlled substances for the pharmacy department and all patient care units; manage automated dispensing devices on all patient care units.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of medications and compounded sterile and non-sterile products in accordance with state, federal and USP requirements.
  • Attend medical emergencies and codes and assist in medication dosing and preparation.
  • Document interventions for drug therapy recommendations, dose evaluations, compatibility, assessments, pharmacokinetic monitoring, drug information provision and medication reconciliation.
  • Participate and contribute to hospital committee work as required.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to pharmacy technicians and clinical pharmacy students as appropriate.
  • Rotate on-call pager responsibilities during pharmacy off hours

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy

Current Massachusetts pharmacy license in good standing

Working up to every other weekend

Sterile compounding experience

Ability to work and lead the pharmacy independently

Minimum of 1-3 years of clinical pharmacy experience

Pediatric and critical care practice exposure preferred
