SGA YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES OVERVIEW
SGA's mission is to help children, families, and communities facing great challenges to realize their potential. SGA uses a proven and innovative method called the Cycle of Opportunity. This system is a continuum of comprehensive services that helps break the cycle of adversity and provide families with enough opportunity to change their lives and their communities.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Resource Coordinator is responsible for implementing and facilitating the Community School Initiative (CSI) model to support students and their families by creating strategic and meaningful partnerships between community organizations and the school during after school hours. The Resource Coordinator is stationed at an assigned school and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of all CSI programs in the school. This encompasses oversight of all out-of-school time programs, family engagement, leadership programs, and mental health/social emotional learning. The Resource Coordinator is responsible for locating resources within the community area and engaging stakeholders in the development of school programs.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the liaison between the school, CSI, SGA, vendors, students and their families.
  • Implement annual needs assessment to determine the appropriate allocation of resources and available programming for the school year.
  • Coordinate programming for students to ensure that at least 12 hours of programming is offered each week for at least 28 weeks during the school year.
  • Coordinator programming for parents/caregivers to ensure a minimum of 50 hours per year of programming for adults.
  • Develops, maintains, and publicizes a schedule of programs and activities offered through the Community School Initiative.
  • Recruit and enroll between 75 to 100 students into programming.
  • Coordinates classroom workshops, teacher/parent/community training.
  • Recruit and enroll at least 35 adults into programming.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires and monitors individuals and organizations (vendors) that offer programs and services at the school to meet the needs of school staff, students, families, and community members.
  • Support vendors by providing contracts, onboarding, materials, recruitment of students, daily attendance sheets, time and effort, monthly invoicing, and documentation of services into CitySpan.
  • Coordinate an advisory committee comprised of school community, parents, community leaders, vendors, and student leaders, that meets at least 3 times a year
  • Maintain a program compliance binder that contains all required documentation for on-site programming and training annually.
  • Ensure documentation of all program attendance, vendors, service plans, budgets, and schedules are input and maintained in CitySpan on a weekly basis.
OTHER PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
  • Implements strategies to strengthen the relationship between the school, family, and community.
  • Assess and identify additional community resources, make appropriate referrals and linkages for families and students, and facilitate ongoing communication between service providers, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Manages all agency expectations for reporting, data, and other documentation on a timely basis for programs.
  • Provides support and consultation to community-based organizations
  • Maintains accurate records; evaluate and make recommendations of programs
  • Accept the role and responsibilities of serving as an agent of change within the school and community
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in negotiating with vendors, managing program budgets in collaboration with the agency and school, purchasing of goods, and ensuring the payment of personnel and vendors.
  • Full attendance and participation in supervision and all scheduled training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
  • High School Diploma
Experience:
  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience working with children and/or adults in a nonprofit social service or community development organization.
Other:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to develop community partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate records and prepare reports in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Desired: knowledge and experience of working with Chicago Public Schools
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Able to work with families and school community.
