Join Serco as a Transportation Engineer!

Serco is looking for an experienced candidate who has extensive knowledge of experience in transportation operations, data analysis, transportation studies and research. You will support a state government customer by ensuring all contract and company requirements are met or exceeded. Our traffic management center operations teams work closely with state employees, local law enforcement and other first responders daily so our quality standards and processes are vital. This is a remote position with occasional travel to Baton Rouge, LA for occasional construction or in person meetings.

In this role you will:

• Perform research on best practices in transportation operations services and traffic incident management.
• Conduct special studies regarding transportation operations and traffic incident management. These studies may include autonomous/connected vehicles and roadway device operations; incorporating autonomous/connected vehicles and roadway devices to TMC operations.
• Prepare special reports based on conducted research, and special studies.
• Conduct cost/benefit analysis on the TSMO services program.
• Analyze existing transportation operations and traffic management data (to include data generated by MAP), for trends.
• Monitor field device status and report failure to ITS Maintenance using the “trouble ticket” notification system.
• Continually monitor traffic conditions statewide and anticipate problem areas.
• Assist Department staff in identifying ITS infrastructure needs.
• Recommend methods to alleviate congestion, identify congestion countermeasures that can be put into place.
• Monitor ramp meter operation and make changes to timing plans based on observed operation and current traffic conditions.
• Work with District Traffic Operation Engineers, DOTD Traffic Engineering Section, and DOTD Traffic Services Section on issues concerning arterial signal timing and coordination and TIM.
• Support emergency operations such as severe weather.
• Perform transportation management operations, incident management, travel information dissemination, and customer service tasks, not explicitly identified, that fall within the scope of the project.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from accredited university
• Five years of experience in transportation operations and traffic incident management
• Three years of experience conducting transportation operations and traffic incident management studies and research
• Two years of experience in Arterial Signal Timing and Coordination, Traffic Signal System Communication or Ramp Metering Operations, smart city operations, autonomous/ connected vehicles and roadway operations
• Two years of experience in writing technical reports
• PE certification
• Available for occasional travel to Baton Rouge, LA
