Position Description

If you love engaging with high profile and challenging engineering projects supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, Serco has a great opportunity for you! This Data Scientist will be part of a dynamic team supporting the Department of Defense’s (DoD) research, development, and prototyping efforts located in Crystal City, VA. Serco supports the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and other Defense Agencies with engineering and program management. The DoD customer’s mission is to rapidly demonstrate and transition innovative capabilities to shape the competition space, counter emerging threats, and support long-term competitions by creating strategic operational effects through deterrence, power projection, cost imposition, surprise, and overmatch. Serco develops and demonstrate prototypes to buy down risk and prove feasibility of game-changing concepts using existing and emerging Government and commercial systems.

You will be part of a Serco team responsible for highly consequential engagements with stakeholders impacting national security and the defense capabilities. You will work closely with customers and other Serco teams to deliver quality solutions recognized by DoD and other government industries as outstanding contributions in engineering program and risk management across the Defense enterprise. 

In the Data Scientist role, you will:

  • Identify business trends and problems through complex big data analysis
  • Provide recommendations to the senior OSD decision-maker regarding new applications of, and modifications to, existing and near-term capabilities

  • developing new and innovative ways to shape and counter emerging threats across the space, SOF, and cyber domains, bringing unexpected and game-changing capabilities to the Joint Force
  • Interpret results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining independently
  • Design, develop and implement the most valuable business solutions for the organization
  • Prepare big data, implement data models, and develop a database to support the business solutions

Qualifications

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • A DoD Top Secret clearance (with SCI eligibility)
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a technical field
  • 3 years of relevant experience in database management, big data, and data models
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Powerpoint, Word, and Excel
