SUMMARY:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee strategic and operational direction for the organization, including creating operations strategy and policy. The COO will have the overall responsibility of achieving SSF’s goals, which include driving profitable growth and overall Firm performance. The COO will ultimately lead the Firm’s operations, focusing on client satisfaction, process improvement and growth. This role will work closely with the Managing Partner to execute the firm’s business plans according to the established strategic model. The COO will determine if organizational objectives are being met and oversee the implementation of company strategy. The COO will develop growth initiatives to meet company benchmarks and goals, and facilitate company transformation, ensuring effective operational and financial procedures are in place.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management oversight of:
    • Firm business policies and accounting practices
    • Relationships with banks ensuring that we manage our credit line and renewals properly
    • SSF’s annual budgeting process
    • Business insurance: procurement, monitoring and management
  • Embodies SSF’s vison and values, setting a positive example for others to follow
  • Makes timely and effective decisions, by gaining consensus and buy-in from key players
  • Engages in the Firm’s strategic planning process to ensure smooth running operations
  • Communicates and implements the Firm’s vision and strategic plan
  • Works with finance and the Managing Partner (MP) to establish a financial plan for SSF that achieves the firm’s financial goals, including expenditures, revenue goals, and staff productivity goals
  • Supports and advises the Managing Partner in decision making
  • Presents relevant financial data to the partners, including industry/competition comparisons
  • Monitors the firm’s profitability, budget performance, and revenue per engagement
  • Collaborates with Leadership to establish and support practice performance metrics
  • Works with Partners-in-Charge to streamline and automate processes to include but not limited to: revenue cycle, KPI’s and reporting
  • Reviews and analyzes financial reporting and other metrics used by the firm
  • Authorizes expenditures/purchases, gaining approval for expenditures outside of the budget
  • Facilitates regular meetings, establishing short- and long-term goals, and accountability metrics
  • Identifies talent and develops them for future roles
  • Leads corporate development team working closely with the Managing Partner and Human Resources (HR)
  • Develops a real estate plan for the firm to optimize both space and “spend”
  • Works closely with Leadership to improve deliverables, ensuring tasks are completed timely

  • Adopts new software and technologies as implemented by the firm
  • Mentors and manages subordinates to establish and drive accountability and productivity
  • Develops goals and supports performance outcomes for the team
  • Recommends compensation for staff with input and approval from HR and the Managing Partner
  • Attends firm meetings and retreats, as needed
  • Exemplifies firm values, providing a work environment that promotes respect and collaboration

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
    • MBA or CPA License preferred with a Public Accounting Firm background
  • Strong background in accounting and finance with a professional services firm, preferably CPA firm
  • Strong operational experience: ideally in a senior management role for 5 years as a COO
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, risk management and banking
  • Socially responsible, with a history of community service
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to and from SSF offices and events, as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • General office work (typing), which lends itself to repetitive motion.
  • Sitting in a stationary position for several hours within the day.
  • Ability to work remotely and create a comfortable and productive remote work environment.
