Description
Summary/Objective:
The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the preparation, serving and clean up of meals and snacks as directed by the supervisor in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
· Assist in food production lines for all meals
· Assist in the preparation, set-up and cleaning for all meals and snacks
· Works in all areas of dietary department as well as in dining rooms
· Must be knowledgeable about dietary practices and procedures
· Wash and put away dishes and cookware following each meal and snack
· Complete daily and periodic cleaning duties per assigned or scheduled by supervisor
· As feasible, fulfill resident requests for special food, snacks, and beverages during and between meals
· Follow established infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures
· Monitor the use and handling of kitchen equipment to ensure safe usage and avoid waste or breakage
· Adhere to all resident rights, including, privacy, confidentiality, and treating residents with dignity and respect
· Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information
· Report any accident/incident or hazards, no matter how insignificant
· Attend departmental meetings, staff development meeting, and staff meetings
· Performs other duties as assigned by the department supervisor
· All staff in food services must be trained within 30 days in the following:
o Safe Food Preparation
o Food and Culture
o Promoting Successful Nutrition
o Proper Handwashing
Requirements
Competencies/Physical Activities:
· Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. comfortably
· Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
· Comfortable using and climbing on ladders and step stools
· Must always wear non-skid shoes during scheduled work hours
· Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours
· May be subject to physically ill residents as well as hostile and emotionally upset residents, so maintaining a positive, courteous, respective attitude is crucial
· May be subject or exposed to temperature changes when in kitchen or storage areas or when entering refrigerator
· Comfortable with repetitive movements including climbing, crawling, crouching, pulling, pushing
· Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, including the ability to provide non-
technical assistance in a simple, straightforward manner
· Demonstrate sensitivity to the concerns of residents and a commitment to dealing fairly with all
· Friendly demeanor, positive disposition, tactful, patience and high ethical character
· Maintains a professional demeanor and responds with urgency
· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
· Self-directed and proactive; independent problem solver
Education and Experience:
· GED or High school diploma preferred
· Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
· Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the general public
· Prior working experience with an elderly and/or disabled population a plus
Expected Hours of Work:
This role is a full-time position with expectations of working between 32-40 hours per week. Schedule flexibility may be permitted but must be available during the "core" work hours which will be discussed and defined by your supervisor.
