Seneca Family of Agencies is Hiring a Classroom Counselor Near Richmond, CA

Overview

Do you have a passion for supporting the mental health and academic needs of diverse youth? So do we, and we’re hiring a Classroom Counselor to join one of our close-knit school teams. 

We’re looking for a dynamic Classroom Counselor to guide students K-8 students at Caliber Academy to academic success no matter what challenges they may be facing. As a Classroom Counselor, you’ll support students' mental health needs, provide therapeutic interventions, and foster academic curiosity. Our Classroom Counselors collaborate with a creative team of special education teachers, school therapists, and education leaders to foster classrooms that celebrate diversity and weave our families' cultures into a curriculum that addresses each student’s individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate students in their academics and mentor them in interacting positively with peers and coping with frustration
  • Confidently guide students in staying on task and focused within the classroom
  • Inspire curiosity and creativity in students by sharing your skills and interests in sports, art, games, nature exploration, and other fun activities
  • Effectively collaborate with special education teachers and school therapists
  • Communicate clearly and tactfully with all staff and caretakers involved in the daily life of your students
  • Provide crisis intervention for students, using de-escalation techniques and the implementation of Seneca's Equilibrium Training

Qualifications

REQUIRED 

  • Education/Experience requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree OR 
    • Associate degree and one year of relevant experience OR 
    • High school diploma and two years of relevant experience 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • TB test clearance, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster

PREFERRED 

  • Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency 
  • Demonstrated success mentoring, supporting, and/or motivating youth in a school-based setting 
  • Creditable education or experience in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field 
  • An interest in growing in the education or mental health fields

Schedule

  • Full-time, in-person 
  • School-based schedule
  • 5 weeks of paid time off and 11 paid holidays, and flexible PD opportunities during school breaks

Benefits

  • Starting at $22.00 per hour, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
  • Additional $2.00 per hour upon passing a bilingual language proficiency exam
