ABOUT THE ROLE 

Are you passionate about supporting the mental health needs of BIPOC youth? So are we, and we’re hiring Classroom Counselors to help cultivate Unconditional Education with one of our close-knit school program teams. 

Seneca’s school partnership program is hiring a Classroom Counselor to guide students to academic success at Redwood Highschool in Castro Valley. As a Counselor, you’ll support students' mental health needs, provide therapeutic interventions, and foster curiosity in an innovative classroom setting. Our Counselors collaborate with a creative team of special education teachers, school therapists, and education leaders to foster classrooms that celebrate diversity and weave our community’s cultures into a curriculum that addresses each student's individual needs. You’ll also have the opportunity to enroll in embedded MSW, MFT, or Special Education credential programs under a substantial Seneca scholarship!

Responsibilities

  • Inspire curiosity and creativity in students by sharing your skills and interests in sports, art, games, nature exploration, and other fun activities.
  • Motivate students in their academics and mentor them in interacting positively with peers and coping with frustration. 
  • Confidently guide students in staying on task and focused within the classroom. 
  • Effectively collaborate with special education teachers and school therapists. 
  • Communicate clearly and tactfully with all staff and caretakers involved in the daily life of your students. 
  • Provide crisis intervention for students, using de-escalation techniques and the implementation of Seneca's Equilibrium Training.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree OR 
    • Associate degree and one year of relevant experience OR 
    • High school diploma and two years of relevant experience 
  • Bilingual Spanish-English proficiency is a plus! 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • TB test clearance, fingerprints, and COVID-19 vaccination

Schedule

  • Full-time, school-based schedule

  • 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and additional paid school break days 

Benefits

  • Starting at $24.00 per hour, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
  • Additional compensation is provided upon passing a bilingual language proficiency exam
