Work Schedule: Monday - Friday / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 35 Hours Per Week
Position Overview
Seldovia Village Tribe (SVT) is seeking an Environmental Program Assistant (Assistant) to assist with the Environmental Department’s goals and objectives to support SVT’s Mission. On the job training is available for many of the key responsibilities.
Under the guidance of the Environmental Program Coordinator, the Assistant will support the planning, development and implementation of the Environmental Departments projects and programs. This will include a variety of tasks that include, analyzing data, helping develop reports and documents, and maintaining a good working relationship with local, state, and federal agencies. The Assistant will help the Environmental Technician with field work and tasks when needed. There are many opportunities to learn and grow in this position in subjects such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and grant writing.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in planning and developing field work plans
- Help development of reports and documents
- Participate in writing and developing grants
- Operate various water quality and air monitoring Instruments
- Help collecting electronic waste and recycling.
- Public speaking and presenting oneself profesionally.
- Participate in community education efforts in various capacities
- Participate in and contribute to tribal events and efforts
- Participate in emergency planning and training as required
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology or work equivalent, required.
Experience: Experience in fisheries, preferred.
Experience in tribal environmental programs a plus.
Certifications/Licensure: HAZWOPER Certification (can get certified post hire if necessary)
CPR/FIrst Aid - provided by SVT
Other Requirements: Preemployment Background Screening

Computer/Equipment Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) Software
- Experience using water quality and/or air monitoring equipment and associated software. Or a willingness to learn.

Work Environment
Seldovia Village Tribe is a drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free work environment. This position will be required to travel to remote locations. An individual in this position may expect to travel in small to large aircrafts, small to large water crafts, and/or automobiles. An individual in this position may be exposed to environmental hazards common to a field setting, including but not limited to insects, rough terrain, fresh and saltwater hazards, exposure to sun, wind, rain, and other types of weather. An individual in this position should expect to spend long periods of time on boats, in the outdoors, or in an office as needed.
