Safety & Facilities Manager – Savage, MN

Road Machinery & Supplies Co. is searching for a Safety & Facilities Manager to join its team at its Savage, MN location. In this role, you will be responsible for managing company-wide safety practices, policies and compliance with a focus on improving safety culture, reducing incidents, accidents and lost-time injuries. The Safety Manager will monitor and implement all regulatory requirements, both safety and environmental, ensuring consistent compliance. In addition, the Safety Manager will serve as resource for all company locations in creating a positive, measurable and sustainable safety culture at RMS. In addition to safety management, this position will also be responsible for facility leadership, management of improvement projects, and maintenance support for all RMS facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with General Managers, Parts & Service Managers, and team members to develop, communicate and implement safety policies, procedures, and training.
  • Establish safety audit format, implement & execute plan to perform regular audits for all company locations, identifying issues/job hazards, taking corrective action necessary working with branch leadership to resolve identified risks.
  • Manage the reporting and compliance activities necessary to support the needs of our customers and government agencies (OSHA, MSHA, MPCA, DOT, etc.) 
  • Lead safety committee, conducting monthly committee meetings, establish and create weekly tool box talk materials, track branch safety meeting performance.
  • Work with Operations and HR leadership to integrate safety training into the employee on-boarding process.
  • Conduct regular and frequent shop and worksite inspections to identify and control hazards; and do follows-up to ensure recommendations have been implemented. 
  • Promote a safety culture throughout the organization for all and promote safe habits in the workplace and home in an effort to minimize employee injuries and lost production.
  • Manage all company-wide accident and incident investigations and related reporting. (MSHA, OSHA, DOT and Compliance vendors such as ISNetworld and Avetta).
  • Advise all locations and staff of regulatory safety requirements, and changes and the effective date of the new regulation(s). Monitor changes in regulations and develop programs to ensure RMS is compliant.
  • Create and Manage Safety budget (equipment, materials, training, travel, dues and subscriptions, medical)
  • Establish and regularly communicate safety performance metrics that are communicated to branch and executive leadership.
  • Manage facility maintenance across multiple sites and improvements to those facilities.
  • Focus on planning and implementation of maintenance enhancements that will improve productivity while assuring highest levels of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate vendor supplies and services agreements and sourcing.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • 4-year college degree – preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years in a safety related position, ideally in the construction or heavy equipment industry
  • Functions with experience while continuing to acquire a higher level of knowledge and skills.
  • Some overnight travel required.
  • Cross-functional leader - possesses effective communication skills to clearly and concisely present information to stakeholders at all levels of the organization. 
  • Effectively interacts with others, establishing open, candid and trusting relationships.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and manage a large number of different projects to completion.
  • Ability to work responsibly, safely, and intelligently.
  • Have the desire to take action, improve, and be appreciative.
  • Possess the capability to engage with customers, co-workers, and vendors in a respectful manner.
  • Knowledge of running CAPEX projects from concept/finish.
  • Adapt to changing organizational and operational needs with the ability to lead others through change.
  • Skills in organization, prioritizing and attention to detail highly desired.
