Classification: Regular, Full-Time (1.0 FTE), Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director

***Seattle CityClub is a flexible workplace. This role will be able to work remotely and have some in-office work in downtown Seattle to meet the needs of the organization. This role will have some nonstandard hours during evenings, on holidays, and weekends, as needed.***

About the Organization:

Seattle CityClub was founded 42 years ago by eight women who envisioned an organization that served as a catalyst for strong, inclusive civic engagement and discourse. Our mission is to inform, connect and engage people around civic issues to help strengthen our region. One of our top priorities is to help address polarization through our “dialogue across differences” strategic priority. Seattle CityClub does not support or advocate for any particular party, position or agenda.

Our programs are open to everyone and help address some of the most important issues facing our community today. Through coalition-building and collaboration, we help bridge toward solutions across Washington and reach over 1 million people through our in-person and online programs. People from elected officials to people seeking elected offices to community leaders serve as our program speakers.

We live in a time of growing need for a more engaged public that is connected to one another and its community leaders through civil discourse. Seattle CityClub is building on its 42-year legacy and current organizational structure, programming and strategic plan to focus on the horizon. Continued strategic planning will ensure Seattle CityClub serves the community and stays relevant in a changing political landscape and competitive events marketplace. Moving forward from the impact of the pandemic, Seattle CityClub Board and Staff have chosen to focus on two flagship programs in 2022: Civic Cocktail and the WA State Debate Coalition.

Position Summary

Seattle CityClub is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Development Manager with demonstrated commitment to our mission and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to join our leadership team.

The Development Manager will lead and execute Seattle CityClub’s development efforts across all revenue streams except event ticket sales. This includes setting ambitious yet attainable annual fundraising goals; developing and executing a fundraising plan that will elevate CityClub’s fundraising efforts to the next level. Creating and managing solicitation, cultivation and stewardship strategies and timelines; collaborating with the Executive Director on corporate and foundation initiatives; engaging the Executive Director and Board of Directors appropriately; and fostering a culture of philanthropy.

Critical Job Functions

  • Serve as a responsible leader on the team and actively guide our culture of philanthropy and equity.
  • Manage the implementation of an ambitious strategic plan for growth, aligned to organizational mission, goals and priorities.
  • Execute annual partnership plan to maximize partner visibility across our 25 programs and events and serve as the daily steward of their relationship with CityClub.
  • Execute individual giving program, including major gifts, annual donors, and planned giving program. Manage relationships with key donors.
  • Prepare materials and strategies for the Executive Director, Fund Development & Finance Committee and Board members to solicit major philanthropic gifts.
  • In partnership with Development Coordinator and contract grant writer, as needed, research and serve as the lead grant manager.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant, professional experience including fundraising and events.
  • Experience supervising at least one staff member in a supportive, coaching manner.
  • Experience creating and taking part in DEI initiatives, professionally or personally, strongly preferred.
  • Experience securing, prospecting, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts.
  • Strong budget and financial management skills; experience prioritizing development initiatives based on return on impact and investment.
  • Highly proficient at establishing strong partnerships across organizations and influencing stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes. Experience building long-term relationships with donors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sensitivity and finesse in stewardship of donor relationships, and an ability to work with the contract Communications Manager to build brand messaging that is tailored to diverse audiences and reflective of CityClub’s values and inclusive culture.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and project and time management skills. Ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard business software programs including, but not limited to, Salesforce.
  • Existing philanthropic relationships in Seattle and throughout Puget Sound preferred.
  • Experience with civic engagement organizations preferred. Strong understanding of the local and national political landscape a plus.

Seattle CityClub is committed to internal and market equity. The salary range for this position is $53,390 - $77,420 annually. Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We are likely to hire at the beginning to midpoint of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee's performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties.
