Position Summary: The Staff Accountant II position is responsible for processing grants billing; helping with the following: internal auditing of grants accounting, grant compliance, creating general journal entries, helping prepare and/or file necessary documents for purchase orders, accounts payable, accounts receivable; and other miscellaneous tasks related to accounting. The Staff Accountant II is also responsible for handlings various disbursements as well as improving the accuracy and efficiency of accounting processes, systems, and workflows while maintaining a high level of accuracy and compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Fosters a service-minded team environment by working cohesively with the staff in accounting, billing, payroll, and grants & contracts, fielding internal and external inquiries
  2. Responsible for grants billing, compliance, and internal audit of said grants
  3. General ledger functions such as account analysis, account reconciliation, trend analysis, and financial statement research.
  4. Participate in meetings with Team, Managers, and Directors
  5. Prepare cash forecasts based on historical financial data and knowledge gained from working with and supporting field finance and operations management.
  6. Center accounting review responsibilities for revenue, AR, liabilities, equity, development projects, fixed assets, inventory, medical director fees, leases and subleases.
  7. Supports daily accounts receivable tasks for accuracy and timely data entry, to include invoicing, cash application, and collections.
  8. Assists with the payroll process related to grants coding and compliance.
  9. Assists in the development, implementation, and training of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  10. Perform reconciliation of Bank Accounts/Statements.
  11. Assist with the completion of routine monthly and year end close procedures.
  12. Reviews all posting batches from Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable into the General Ledger.
  13. Works closely with the Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller and CFO to ensure compliance.
  14. Participates in preparing audit requests from external auditors and funders.
  15. Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  16. Actively participates in internal quality improvement
  17. Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
  18. Utilize general business knowledge to assist operational teammates with non-routine accounting issues and concerns.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller, Controller, and CFO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field, and 2 years staff accountant experience.
  2. Excellent verbal and written skills
  3. Self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  4. Intermediate level computer skills
  5. Highly professional, detailed individual with a high degree of emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills.
  6. Knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP, and government accounting standards.
  7. Experience in financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, underwriting, and internal controls
  8. Excellent ability to explain financial and accounting concepts to all levels and personnel from diverse backgrounds

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Licensed CPA
  2. Experience with Intacct ERP
  3. Understanding of American Indian/Alaska Native community and health issues as well as those of the surrounding community.

Work Environment: 

  • The Staff Accountant works in a collaborative work/office environment.

  • Clinic hours are 8-5, Monday-Friday. Duties may involve long hours performing
