SUMMARY

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and trailers in the department as necessary. This is a 1^st shift Monday-Friday position. This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $26.00 per hour. The hourly rate for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Essential functions (Other duties may be assigned, and management retains the discretion to add, delete, or change the duties at any time)

• Responsible for maintenance and repair of fleet tractors and trailers. 
• Ensure all road equipment meets and exceeds DOT regulations.
• Repairs and maintains electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Maintenance and repair of other equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and skid steers.
• Ensures all preventative maintenance is performed in accordance with ISO quality procedures and work instructions.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required
• Three to five years of related experience with solid work history
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Education and Experience

• Knowledge of DOT regulations
• ASE certification preferred
• Technical diesel training preferred 

Skills and Abilities

• Electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic background; experience with diesel engine repair required
• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
• Ability to design and adjust workflows and procedures
• Ability to respond to employees’ and customers’ complaints with respect and consideration
• Routinely work independently and adapt to frequent delays and unexpected events
• Ability to read and compose simple instructions and correspondence in the form of emails and memos
• Ability to prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines, daily tasks, and projects are completed on time
• Knowledge of CMMS and or maintenance repair software
• Ability to work overtime as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Routinely required to stand and walk; use hands to handle and feel; reach with arms and hands; as well as climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat and outside weather
• Specific vision requirements include color, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
