Senior Mechanical Engineer
The Mechanical Engineering Group designs the mechanical hardware for Sarcos products. Senior Mechanical Engineers are responsible for ensuring the designs meet requirements for components, subsystems, and the final system level product. Experience with detailed machine design is required. This position demands exceptional creativity and experience to develop innovative mechanical solutions for high performance robotic devices. It requires both a sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles and hands on abilities. This position requires an ability to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is critical.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze tasks for machine design problems with a focus on robotic applications.
  • Prepare SolidWorks solid models and fabrication prints.
  • Specify and review drawings for proper GD&T - performing tolerance stack-ups as needed.
  • Generate bill of materials and support fabrication and assembly.
  • Responsible for engineering calculations, both structural and thermal, to size actuators, bearings, seals, etc., that are used in mechanical devices.
  • Perform basic linear structural and thermal finite element analyses.
  • Interact with vendors, engineers and fabrication personnel to obtain part information on high tolerance complex parts.
  • Develop test plans, assembly procedures, measurement techniques, and analysis of experimental data generated in the related tests and experiments.
  • Adhere to policies regarding revision control and electronic storage of documentation.
  • Create easy to understand design materials, presentations, and graphics.
  • Assist in the development of technical best practices.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering and 7 years relevant experience designing and analyzing high performance mechanisms and electro-mechanical devices (e.g. transmission, linkages, actuators; etc.).
  • Experience using GD&T for mechanisms.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience with mechanical design, engineering materials, and fabrication technologies.
  • Understanding of common industry standards such as AGMA, ISO, ASTM, AMS, MIL, NLGI, ABEC, etc.
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing practices for both low and high-volume production such as CNC machining, casting, welding, grinding, hobbing, shaping, additive manufacturing, vacuum forming, etc.
  • Experience with 3-D CAD solid-modeling software (preferably SolidWorks) and analysis tools such as Matlab.
  • Knowledge of document archival processes, e.g., PDM document control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical design best practices.
  • Knowledge and experience of mechanical analysis and testing methods.
  • Experience working in a product and/or manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and troubleshooting test equipment is a plus.
  • Proficiency working with databases to store and maintain design documents and records.
  • Able to direct engineering efforts and leverage support staff to achieve program goals.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed Monday through Friday with ability to work overtime and weekends.
  • Safety awareness is absolutely essential at all times while in the work area.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for extended times.
