Summary of Position

We are seeking an Engagement Coordinator to join our team within the SANS Technology Institute (SANS.edu) business unit. The engagement coordinator will set strategic direction, plan, and execute programs and initiatives that increase the professional community among the college’s students and cultivate relationships with alumni to enhance continuing education and alumni as ambassadors for the college.

The engagement coordinator will be responsible for planning and executing engagement activities, marketing activities to drive student/alumni awareness and participation, and tracking and assessing activities to improve future professional programming. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Expand, plan, and execute virtual and in person professional programming for current students to increase their awareness of industry topics, provide opportunities for them to expand their professional networks, and to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to be considered for recruitment into organizations represented by our current graduate students and alumni
  • Expand, plan, and execute virtual and in person alumni engagement events and communications to regularly empower our alumni to act as ambassadors for the college, to continually expand their professional networks across the alumni organization, and to provide them with opportunities to engage with our current students
  • Partner with marketing and admissions in support of those two responsibilities, above, in order to tell a consistent story about the college and our strategic vision
  • Supervise the announcements, organization, coaching sessions, and administrative management of teams for cyber competitions for our students including National Cyber League, NSA Codebreaker Challenge, Holiday Hack Challenge, and explore other similar opportunities in order to elevate the brand recognition of the college
  • Plan and execute commencement ceremonies
  • Manage and expand alumni services, including processing diplomas, certificates, and transcript requests; processing alumni course discount registrations; organizing periodic professional development webinars; managing the LinkedIn group, etc.
  • Manage the SANS.edu Slack account and, within that social media platform, refer students to the appropriate college resources when necessary
  • Manage the college’s online store
  • Other duties related to student and alumni engagement, as they emerge or as directed by the senior leadership of the college

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience, preferably event planning in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans for student/alumni programming
  • Success record in executing a wide range of events
  • Attention to detail. Knowledge of basic etiquette of entertaining
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Adept with using software systems and willing to learn new products and technologies
  • Ability and confidence to work independently using sound judgment, as well as a commitment to working as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Canvas, Salesforce, or other higher education platforms

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Assistant Director of College Operations and has no direct reports.

Work Environment

Remote work environment. Travel required up to 10% up the time for in person meetings and events.
