Position Summary

As a Director of Pharmacy, you will lead the opening of several pharmacies within our Sanitas Medical Centers, and you will plan, organize, control, and supervise activities in our network outpatient pharmacies according to standards of practice of the profession, and State and Federal laws.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for getting the sanitary authorization to open several ambulatory pharmacies into our Sanitas Medical Centers.
  • Responsible for obtaining and interpreting Federal, State and local requirements pertaining to pharmaceuticals to effectively organize, direct and manage the department
  • Manage the Department of Pharmacy; Responsible that all activities of the department are carried out in a professional, safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Compiles and/or obtains formularies, information on medication preparation, standard compendia on pharmaceuticals, reference texts and journals for the department as reference for all staff members.
  • Responsible for the financial viability of the Department of Pharmacy, including the development and management of both the capital and operational budgets of the department
  • Manage effectively in purchasing medications and pharmaceutical utilized for Sanitas´s patients; establishes specification on quality and source for purchase to ensure the best price and quality.
  • Perform regular purchasing and inventory analysis; implements corrective measures as necessary
  • Establish quality improvement, fiscal, productivity, and patient satisfaction goals and objectives in conjunction with upper management.
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives in accordance with organizational philosophy and mission.
  • Supervise the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in-service education of healthcare center staff, and medical staff and consultation with patients
  • Actively assist staff pharmacists in the discharge of routine duties as necessary.
  • Direct the activities of and provide professional and technical guidance to pharmacy personnel.
  • Provide leadership to new program development, implementation, and evaluation. Act as a consultant in areas of expertise.
  • Anticipate the needs and issues of customers/suppliers in order to insure effective departmental operations and/or meet their needs.
  • Provide leadership to the department through effective organization, direction of activities, and appropriate delegation of functions.


Required Education and Experience

  • B.S. or Pharm D from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory or leadership experience preferred, with emphasis on personnel management, financial management, operational management, performance improvement, and regulatory requirements.
  • Current Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current Consultant Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Controlled Substance License in good standing with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy if applicable. *

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Medication Use Programs, pharmacy computer systems, and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of federal and state-specific laws/regulations governing pharmacy practice.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Strong organizational, prioritizing, and analytical skills.
