Job Summary: 

Sanford Federal, Inc. is looking to hire a licensed psychologist to acquire psychological evaluations and testing for all North Florida/South Georgia VA Police Officers to determine police officers’ suitability to perform the duties of a police officer.

Qualification: 

  • Must provide either previous experience as a police psychologist or satisfactory demonstration of an ability to fulfill the duties listed.
  • Must be licensed to practice independently.
  • Must at a minimum hold a Ph.D. in Psychology.

Duties:

  • The evaluator shall provide an initial and annual psychological evaluation of all VA Police Officers. All VA Police Officers, Detectives, Criminal Investigators, Training Instructors, Deputy Assistant Chief, and Chief of Police shall be reexamined annually to determine their continued emotional suitability to perform the duties of a VA Police Officer.
  • Shall determine suitability and stability by conducting a pre-employment psychological evaluation, in which he shall focus on the functional requirements for the position of VA police officer. The test must consist of a standardized interview and standardized objective psychological testing with symptom validity scales.
  • Each psychological evaluation shall include an exploration of substance abuse and symptoms of other mental health disorders that may be considered an impediment to effective functioning as a VA police officer.
  • Shall conduct a standardized interview along with administration of psychological screening and assessment tools. Such instruments as the Personal Health Questionnaire 2 (PHQ2), PTSD Screen for Primary Care (PC-PTSD), the Alcohol Use Identification Test (AUDIT), and others.
  • Shall conduct special examination when there is objective evidence indicating the employee’s ability to perform essential job functions is compromised.
  • The evaluator will use the forms and report templates included as a report to the Occupational Health Physician at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center within 48 hours of evaluation. The report will indicate Pass/Fail, Recommended/Not Recommended regarding the use of a firearm.
