SANDIA LABORATORY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION is Hiring a Compliance Analyst Near Albuquerque, NM

Description

Assists the Compliance Officer in the development, monitoring, and maintenance of the Credit Union’s compliance program to ensure the Credit Union complies with applicable laws and regulations. Researches and responds to staff and member questions as they pertain to legal and regulatory issues. Conducts research and advises on compliance issues impacting organizational and department projects. Performs compliance reviews and assists with external compliance examinations.

Job Duties:

  • Handle day-to-day compliance issues and questions, in areas such as Mortgage and Consumer Lending, Business Lending, Loan Servicing, Marketing, and Loss Prevention.
  • Conduct compliance reviews and/or audits of Credit Union materials, documents, records, and processes.
  • Interpret laws, such as the Dodd-Frank Act’s prohibition against Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts and Practices (UDAAP), as well as regulations, including those promulgated under the Truth in Lending Act and Truth in Savings Act, as applicable to the Credit Union’s marketing communications. Review such communications for compliance with applicable laws and Credit Union risk appetites.
  • Help with the development of goals and objectives for the compliance function in alignment with organizational and departmental goals and objectives. Draft appropriate policies and procedures in line with stated goals and objectives.
  • In the absence of the Compliance Officer, represent the Credit Union’s regulatory compliance efforts to external auditors, examiners, and others as necessary, and be able to provide sufficient explanation and supporting documentation of the Credit Union’s policies and procedures as they relate to compliance requirements.
  • Assist in processing summons and subpoena record requests, ensuring correct documentation is delivered, invoices are billed, and payments are received.
  • Contribute to the Credit Union’s knowledge bases, intranet, and other knowledge repositories.
  • Provide effective communications and support to employees in alignment with the Credit Union’s core values.
  • Promote the service and sales culture by maintaining basic knowledge of products and services and referring members to the appropriate person/department.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required.

Requirements

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum three years’ experience interpreting and applying regulations, preferably in a financial institution; experience with special accounts issues (trusts, estates, powers of attorney, conservatorships, etc.) desired.
  • Demonstrated research skills and experience, especially electronic research.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of financial institution products, including personal and business account features and ownership/agency capacities.
  • Basic knowledge of Credit Union products and services, features, and benefits.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including proficiency in MS Word. Capable of becoming proficient in the following software programs: Adobe, MS Excel, PowerPoint, iSeries, KeyStone, PCS Vision, SolCom, OnBase, Transact, Bank of West Imaging, Alogent, XpressAccounts, Verafin, Penley, eFunds, and FinCEN’s eFiling.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social science, literature, philosophy, communication, or related degree. Equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be substituted for education.
  • Financial institution compliance certification preferred (issued by NAFCU, CUNA, ABA/ICBA, etc.). In the absence of existing certification, is willing to obtain NAFCU certification at the Credit Union’s expense.

  • Demonstrates strong relationship management skills. Able to handle difficult situations and persons in a positive and professional manner.

Communication:

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to communicate legal/regulatory topics clearly and succinctly to others.
  • Possesses strong reading comprehension skills.
  • Able to convey information effectively from research into reports and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Comfortable presenting information (stand-up and computer-based training) to small and medium sized groups.

Other Skills:

  • Able to conduct research via a variety of channels (Internet, reference materials, personal networking, etc.) and gather information skillfully.
  • Possesses strong business judgment and analytical skills. Able to identify issues and troubleshoot problems in a timely manner.
  • Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills. Able to recognize and respond to deadlines and set priorities appropriately.
  • Comfortable with technology and innovative in its use. Able to download information files and troubleshoot when the information does not process as expected.
  • Able to think strategically and plan accordingly.
