Position Summary:

Goldman Sachs Asset Management is seeking an Associate to join the Goldman Sachs Life Sciences investing platform in San Francisco. Our investments focus on primarily private, earlier-stage companies in the therapeutics space and selected adjacencies in life science tools and diagnostics. We make significant minority equity positions and work closely with our companies to help translate their scientific platforms and technologies into promising products.

The Life Sciences Associate will play an integral role in all aspects of the investing process from deal origination to opportunity evaluation to management of portfolio companies. S/he will work closely with other member of the investment team to identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities, execute deal-related processes, and manage portfolio companies.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain industry relationships with leading venture capital firms, target companies, entrepreneurs and other key stakeholders
• Conduct scientific, clinical, business, financial and other key aspects of due diligence in evaluating potential opportunities
• Assist with investment-related processes including internal memos, committee discussions and external investment related documents
• Prepare financial analyses and valuation of potential opportunities incorporating strategic and competitive outlook
• Attend relevant industry, investment and medical conferences
• Provide ongoing monitoring and support of portfolio companies

Qualifications:

• Strong background in life sciences, with a Ph.D., M.D. and / or significant industry or investing experience
• Ability to interact and build relationships with senior management, entrepreneurs and other investment professionals
• Ability and desire to analyze life science companies (with an emphasis on therapeutics companies)
• 4 years non-academic experience working with or analyzing life science companies in buy-side, sell-side, investment banking, management consulting or industry setting. Previous investing experience preferred
• Demonstrable passion for life sciences based innovation and investment in field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated
• Team-oriented with strong work ethic
