San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living is Hiring an Assistant Director of Nursing Near San Francisco, CA

About:

The nonprofit San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living serves a significant number of patients and long-term care/skilled-nursing residents each year in its Jewish Home & Rehab Center. Non-residential care is offered through our short-term and rehabilitation services unit for patients who require specialized interdisciplinary rehabilitation to recover from surgery or an acute illness, and through our acute geriatric psychiatry hospital. With a complement of close to 650 compassionate, experienced clinical and allied health personnel, SFCJL provides older adults with a variety of life-enriching healthcare programs and services in a welcoming, stimulating environment.

SFCJL’s transformed campus includes the new Lynne & Roy M. Frank Residences (assisted living apartments and memory care & support assisted living suites), and Byer Square, a non-residential community of programs, services, and support.

Position Overview:

The primary role of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to assist the Director of Nursing & Clinical Operations to plan organize, develop and direct the Nursing Department in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines and regulations. This position is responsible to ensure that high quality care is delivered to all resident / patients of the facility.

Essential Job Functions

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with the Director of Nursing & Clinical Operations (DNCO), the Assistant Director of Nursing will:

  • Provide support to the DNCO in the management of nursing operations.
  • Oversee and supervise the long term care and short term care nurse managers, wound care clinical nurse specialist, nursing supervisors, restorative certified nurses’ aids.
  • In collaboration with nurse managers and nursing supervisors, oversee, direct and coordinate nursing staff to provide proper resident/patient care consistent with standard nursing practices.
  • Collaborate with the nurse managers to monitor nursing staff, resident and patient care, as well as ensuring nursing is in compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ensure the nursing department is trained and prepared for the annual California Department of Public Health (CDPH) survey.
  • Under the direction of the DNCO, assist in writing Plans of Correction (POCs), Informal Dispute Resolutions (IDRs), etc., when required.
  • Assist nurse managers in investigating and reporting appropriate occurrences to CDPH; and ensuring that all appropriate paperwork is submitted within the required time frame.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels allowing admission without interruption, as well as the prevention of the facility from falling below required staffing ratios.
  • Foster a strong and cohesive nursing team that practices strong interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Participate in appropriate meetings: complex care committee, restorative nursing and psychotropic meetings; QAPI meetings, falls prevention team.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning and quality improvement.
  •  Assist in managing the finances of the nursing department, including overtime, meal penalties and registry/agency staff.
  • Review, revise and implement department and facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an RN in the state of California
  • BSN or MSN required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in along term health care setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a management/leadership position in SNF or hospital setting
  • 2 years acute care hospital experience preferred.
  • Cultural sensitivity to Jewish traditions
  • Strong English communication skills (written, verbal and comprehension)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated computer skills including MS Office, Excel, Word, and electronic health records
