POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to initiate and develop practical, cost effective and fully functional civil designs and design drawings for any type of project that involves civil engineering through completion for the assigned project. Specifically, civil engineering as it pertains to grading, drainage, underground utilities, roadway design and erosion and sediment control features. The scope of this position requires an individual to perform a Civil Designer role on any project with respect to the development of civil designs and the generation of civil design drawings and the coordination of these designs with the other disciplines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Under general supervision, develops moderately complex Civil engineering drawings.
• Applies a solid level of understanding within the civil discipline.
• Familiar with codes, permits, and software applications related to civil discipline.
• Understands the process of preparing design drawings using project specifications and discipline associated instructions in accordance with established practices, standards and procedures.
• Basic understanding of Civil engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support other designers and overall project design.
• Understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews civil discipline supplied documents.
• Understands compliance of engineering efforts, project schedule, controls, estimates and company procedures with assistance from the Lead Civil Designer and Supervising Engineer.
• Uses initiative and judgment in evaluating, modifying and applying design practices and techniques.
• Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project.
• Is proficient in the use of the company’s civil design software to the degree that no assistance is required in the generation of design drawings.
• Basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline.
• Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
• May provide technical guidance and assistance to other less experienced design and draft personnel.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Designer Intern - Education = Enrolled in Tech/Trade School

Designer IV - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent

Designer III - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 2 years

Designer II - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 4 years

Designer I - Education = Tech/Trade School or equivalent; Experience = 6 years
