Functions within the frame work of the philosophy, policy, practice and program plans of Samaritan Keep Home. Leads the department and is responsible for creating and implementing its standards and ensures that quality nursing care is delivered to all resident and registrants. The Director of Nursing may serve as the Program Co-Ordinator of the Nurse Aide Training Program. This executive will focus on the continued development of long term care practices and the professional development of staff. The Director of Nursing will proactively identify progressive, creative, viable approaches to deliver resident care, enhance overall resident satisfaction, as well as the culture of SKH. The Director of Nursing will have a resident first philosophy, foster strong partnerships with the staff and bring an inclusive and collaborative approach to the organization. The Director of Nursing will be committed to fostering an accountable, empowering environment that is supportive of staff and advances their professional development.

Minimum Education Requirement :

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Registered Nurse Licensure on file with the New York State Department of Education. Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree preferred and formal education as a Registered Nurse is required.

Minimum Experience Requirement :

A minimum of eight years clinical experience in progressive nursing level positions at a health care institution. Five years experience in a supervisory/management role. Must have a thorough knowledge of Nursing practices and principles. Must be knowledgeable of new trends in clinical practice, and be able to apply data and analyze issues to ensure continuous improvement of practice. Proficient in the use of a personal computer including spreadsheet analysis, presentation graphics and word processing. Highly developed verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, patients, families and external individuals, groups and agencies. Ability to manage multiple priorities, simultaneously handle multiple projects and make appropriate decisions to assure completion of tasks on time.
