Description

Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville in 1978 as a storefront “free clinic”. With the ever growing need for health services, in 1992 we became a federally qualified community health center. Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees, and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.

We are seeking a dynamic, organized and detail-oriented OB/GYN to provide comprehensive preventive, diagnostic and treatment services for women who have a disease or disorder of the reproductive system; that offer regular medical examinations to ensure health and detect abnormalities; and which provide care for women during pregnancy, childbirth and the period immediately following childbirth. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs direct patient care, including history-taking, physical examination, diagnostic procedures, therapy, and follow-up under established protocols.
  • Prescribes and administers routine medical treatment; plans and initiates health maintenance and rehabilitation for each patient, including methods such as special diets, exercises, vitamin supplements, immunizations, etc.; writes prescriptions for medication; orders and interprets laboratory analysis and X-rays; performs minor surgery and assists in major surgery.
  • Educates and counsels patient and/or family about normal developmental stages, health management, nutrition practices, chronic diseases, and medications, etc., intervening where appropriate.
  • Refers secondary conditions as necessary, assisting in further examination, diagnosis, and treatment; makes appropriate referrals to external and internal services for health and psychosocial needs, including follow-up to ensure patient compliance.
  • Institutes emergency measures in life-threatening situations.
  • Participates as a team member in Quality Assurance programs, reviewing client diagnosis, treatment, clinic risk management, and medical protocols.
  • Supervises (Please see attached), on provision of medical services and charting, scheduling regular chart review of their work. 
  • Works in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Medical Officer Associate, Clinic Business Manager to insure optimal patient flow; works with scheduling and provider staff to insure that the provider productivity standard of 3.0 patients per patient care hour is achieved.
  • Becomes familiar with all clinical funding sources and contracted health plans; stays informed of reimbursement practices and reporting requirements mandated by funding sources; works with CMO/ACMO, Clinic Business Manager, administrative and fiscal staff to insure that funding sources, clinical program objectives and targeted outcomes are achieved; completes super bill as instructed by fiscal staff.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to remain current on professional development and practices and to maintain California licensure.
  • Assists Chief Medical Officer, Associate Chief Medical Officer, Director of Nursing, Clinic Business Manager, and other staff in periodic evaluation of clinic medical program planning.
  • Attends and participates in all agency staff meetings, Medical Management meetings, Quality Assurance/Quality Management meetings, Clinic Administrative/Fiscal Planning meetings and others as assigned by the CMO.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs in-hospital /call assignments as required/indicated by the CMO.

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION

  • Works with scheduling and provider staff to insure achievement of provider productivity standard.
  • Directly supervises (please see attached), and consults with physicians and mid-level practitioners; delineates clinical privileges for physicians and mid-levels.
  • Directs pharmacy and drug distribution services, including; procurement, storage, distribution, and control of all drugs; development, coordination, supervision, and review of the drug distribution service; training of persons who participate in drug distribution services; maintenance of formally list.
  • Oversees arrangements for delivery of medical in-service training’s during periods when agency is experiencing fiscal constraints may arrange for group or computerized self-instruction for staff CME; participate in continuing education programs to remain current on professional development and practices and to maintain licensure.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California OB/GYN Physician's license.
  • Maintains an updated CPR certificate, valid California driver’s license, and a valid DEA license; submits copies of renewed licenses and certificates to Human Resources.
  • Board certified or Board Qualified in OB/GYN practice.
  • Fluent bilingual Spanish/English.
  • Eligible for Physician's Assistant Supervisory license.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain hospital admitting privileges at local hospital as required/indicated by Chief Medical Officer.

MINIMUM PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bicultural candidates preferred
