The Assistant Plant Manager will assist with general supervision of all phases of plant operations including: safety, production, quality control, maintenance, receiving, shipping and inventory control. They will work closely with the production team to increase productivity and profitability within the manufacturing operation of Salerno. They will help develop and enforce all safety policies. This person must be trained and have at least 5 years of experience including best practices in both managerial and production platforms. Experience in blown film, and wide web flexo printing preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility.
Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
The Assistant Plant Manager will have a schedule that offsets the Plant Manager’s to provide stability in the organization 7 days per week. Some Weekend and night work will be required.
Insure the organization is clean and organized. Lead various THM and 5S projects.
Review established production schedules for all manufacturing departments to insure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
Works with Human Resources to recognize staffing needs
Help direct the safety coordinator in training and safety related projects
Works with Human Resources to ensure all manufacturing personnel have met training requirements
Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
Work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees.
Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication initiatives.
Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.
Remove production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance production
Assist with the processing and control of hazardous waste and unused or scrap resin.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
5 year’s progressive experience in a management role at a manufacturing facility.
Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Power Point) to analyze data and trends.
Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as; Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, etc. to drive improvement.
Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies.
Demonstrated strong team building and advanced coaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills.
Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance and engineering.
Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs.
Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.
A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible. The individual must be committed to insuring the safe and efficient operation of the organization.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Ability to work with teams and lead decision-making processes in a team environment.
Highly motivated, results oriented, driven.
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management/Operations/Engineering/Safety or other related field and/or 5 years in manufacturing management role.
