Saint Mary's University is Hiring a Remote HR Generalist

Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota seeks a HR Generalist for the Twin Cities campus. Working with the four-person HR team in Winona, this position is the point of contact for all Twin Cities HR matters and is eligible to work remotely up to 60%. We seek an experienced HR professional with a history of broad responsibilities that include talent acquisition, group benefits administration, employee leave management, employee relations, and other employment activity. This role has regular contact with functional leaders and is expected to contribute to the achievement of goals and objectives for both the HR department and the university. In all job responsibilities, this role must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution.

Specifically, the HR Generalist

  • Consults with hiring managers and search committees on position descriptions, interview protocols, and selection procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Talent Acquisition Specialist to make job offers, facilitate new hire orientation, coordinate offboarding meetings and exit interviews.
  • Assists with administering employee group benefits including data entry, problem solving, notifications, and consultation with benefit vendors.
  • Coordinates leave of absence and accommodation requests in consultation with the Director of HR Operations.
  • Coordinates the hiring process with academic affairs for course-contracted faculty.
  • Responds to employee relations issues by providing coaching and counseling to employees, and advising on performance improvement plans.
  • Coordinates university employee recognition programs in collaboration with the HR team and other departments.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and communication of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related degree is required; a combination of education and significant related experience may be considered.
  • At least three years of human resources experience with exposure to all major functional areas of HR.
  • Comfort working remotely with limited supervision while delivering results under deadline.
  • Prior experience supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives as part of a talent acquisition strategy.
  • Prior experience with an HRIS database and advanced computer literacy with the Google platform, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
