JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Pharmacist

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As the primary contact for Safeway customers, the Pharmacist provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Prepares and dispenses prescribed medication, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care according to professional standards, and compliance with local, state and federal requirements. Reviews prescriptions issued by physician or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine ingredients needed. Prepares medications using standard formulas and practices such as counting, weighing, measuring, and mixing. Directs pharmacy workers engaged in counting, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side affects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals. Enters data such as patient name and prescribed medication to maintain pharmacy files, systems, and inventory. Pharmacist under direct supervision of the Pharmacy Manager, assist with the ordering and pricing of merchandise, inventory control, personnel, and security. The position maybe hourly/non exempt or salaried/exempt. The Pharmacist reports to the Pharmacy
Manager, Store Manager, Regional Pharmacy Manager, 1st and 2nd Assistant Manager or Person in Charge.

JOB DUTIES:
Safeway Pharmacist are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:
1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position & within company policy.
2. Receives, verifies, obtains and documents refill authorizations and accurately fill prescriptions.
3. Uses verifiable and measurable information to make decisions or judgments in the dispensing of medications.
4. Answer regular and doctor phone lines in an expedient and courteous manner using appropriate store greeting.
5. Perform final audit on prescriptions filled by technicians and interns.
6. Supervise ancillary personnel, interns, and technicians.
7. Maintain a perpetual Schedule II inventory.
8. Knowledge of and ability to operate PDX system and email.
9. Communicate with Doctors’ offices for prescription and refill authorizations.
10. Assist in training store management in basic pharmacy operations.
11. Maintain all legal reports and records as required.
12. Assume management responsibilities as required in the absence of the Pharmacy

Manager.
13. Operates cash register to total customers’ final bill. Receives payment for customers’ purchases and counts back correct change. Bags purchased items.
14. Adheres to Federal, state and local laws. Adheres to Safeway policies, store rules, and follows all Safeway Best Practice Pharmacy procedures.
15. Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy area.
16. Perform all work related duties as assigned.

Cash register, computer, fax machine, printer, telephone, intercom, alarm system, motorized gate, pen/pencils, other office supplies, adding machine and telxon.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing:
Constant standing while on job, in one place for extended periods of time. Must be able to stand in a small area on tile and cement for up to five hours with one fifteen minute break. Sitting allowed on breaks.
Walking:
Frequent walking while on job.
Climb/Balance:
Rarely, may use ladder or step stool. May need to climb stairs to second floor break room/offices/restrooms.
Trunk Functions:
Frequent neck rotation and bending of head, bending/stooping and twisting.
Occasionally squatting. Rarely crouching and kneeling.
Upper Extremity:
Constant handling/grasping, fine finger manipulation, and repetitive motion.
Vision:
Use of peripheral vision and depth perception used to move about crowed pharmacy area. Near vision is used to read product labels, orders, computer screen displays, and cash register.
Hearing:
To converse with customers, provide service, answer questions and conduct business.
To receive instruction from other employees and supervisors, to receive information via telephone, intercom or IDL.
Speech:
To converse with customers, answer questions and conduct business. To page other employees over intercom, give instructions, and provide Superior Customer Service.
