SafePlace is Hiring a Development Director Near Olympia, WA

SafePlace, Thurston County's designated sexual and domestic violence services agency, has an opening for a Housing Relocation Specialist. This is a newly created position. Our organization has been providing services to sexual and domestic violence survivors and their families since 1981. Our sexual assault program is one of the oldest in the nation.

We are an accredited and nationally recognized feminist organization committed to anti-oppression efforts as the foundation for management and services. SUMMARY

The Development Director is a member of the executive leadership team for SafePlace, and is responsible for the creation and implementation of the annual development plan in support of the successful and sustainable operation of SafePlace. This includes the coordination of fundraising, event planning, donor cultivation, and board and community engagement.

The Development Director must be committed to SafePlace’s mission and the foundational principles through which we approach our work, especially the cultural competency that we emphasize, allowing us to serve our community intentionally. This position provides the direction, oversight and support for all development activity throughout the agency, and manages ongoing communication and reporting regarding fundraising progress throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Develop, coordinate and implement activities and accountability measures for the annual fundraising plan to meet organizational goals and priorities.
    1. Establish weekly, monthly and annual metrics and benchmarks for development team to make contacts with new donors to build expanded donor base.
    2. Develop and maintain a diverse funding strategy for utilizing a balanced approach of both public and private funds leading toward a sustainability-based model for agency function.
    3. Ensure the development and coordination of fundraising efforts through events, grant management, direct mail solicitations, annual campaign, planned giving, monthly giving, workplace giving, SafePlace website and web fundraising.
    4. Build program structures for corporate donor, private giving and board giving programs to maximize relationship growth and cultivation opportunity.
    5. Work with Executive Director and other agency staff to prioritize funding needs for grant writing.
    6. Ensure the ongoing research of potential funding sources on an ongoing basis, allowing for the agency to be as responsive to community need as possible.
    7. Monitor and evaluate current revenue information related to the annual budget on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
    8. Monitor and provide oversight for staff projects, including grant and private fundraising activities, and donor cultivation and retention activities.
    9. Ensure timely completion of required and informational reports to governmental and private funding sources.
    10. Regularly evaluate development program systems and activities based on effectiveness and results, and make necessary adjustments to meet goals.
    11. Coordinate and support the Community Benefit Event program, ensuring the successful recruitment, retention and solicitation of event hosts and guests in accordance with goals each year.
  1. Actively participate in innovative donor cultivation planning and implementation.
  2. Establish, develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors.
  3. Create plans to cultivate various donor investment levels to include current and future major donors, and solicit assistance from the Executive Director and Board of Directors where appropriate.
  4. Create donor campaigns that intentionally and strategically reach out to different segments of the community to share the SafePlace message to generate additional donor commitments.
  5. Work with Executive Director and development team to create additional donor engagement program opportunities to assist community with ways to support the SafePlace mission.
  6. Regularly track, evaluate and assess effectiveness of donor cultivation and retention activities, with a willingness to adjust plans at established plan intervals.
  7. Actively network with individuals, businesses, and organizations within the community to create opportunities for relationship building.
  1. Ensure high-quality professional development, ongoing training, evaluation, coaching and supervision for development team and volunteers.
  2. Provide ongoing, timely supervision meetings and evaluations for development team members and volunteers.
  3. Maintain consistent, clear and direct communication with development team and volunteers.
  4. Establish quality annual training plans for staff members with meaningful, relevant opportunities for team based on training needs and growth opportunities.
  5. Monitor and provide oversight for staff projects, including grant and private fundraising activities, as indicated on the annual development work plan.
  1. Support agency budget functions.
  2. Track fundraising trends within the nonprofit sector on an ongoing basis, and build a strong network of colleagues and associates that keep you connected to up-to-date information in philanthropic efforts.
  3. Work with the Executive Director to maintain ongoing communication about the status of funding strategies, and potential opportunities based on trends in fundraising.
  4. Develop an updated, detailed action plan and timeline of events for each upcoming year in August, based on upcoming grant opportunities and ongoing trends in philanthropy.
  5. Work in partnership with the Fiscal Director to prepare the annual revenue budget each October, factoring in timely projections based on the annual fundraising plan.
  1. Meet regularly with agency leadership teams to ensure adequate agency-wide communication.
  2. Meet regularly with the Executive Director in scheduled supervision meetings, providing necessary departmental updates, and assigned tasks relative to the development department’s overall activity to include annual fundraising, donor cultivation and retention, brand management, staff development and board accountability.
  3. Meet regularly with the management team in scheduled team meetings providing updated funding information and information regarding trends in fundraising and philanthropy.
  4. Meet quarterly with the program management team in scheduled meetings to present updates on status of fundraising plan progress and program design planning session preparation.
  5. Participate in the monthly agency leadership team meetings as scheduled, providing strong leadership, engagement and role modeling.
  6. Attend any other scheduled agency meetings as requested, ensuring agency cohesiveness and showcasing executive leadership engagement and investment.
  1. Support successful engagement and communication efforts with the Board of Directors.
  2. Establish and maintain sustainable Board of Directors engagement toward successful fundraising efforts to meet and exceed annual goals and benchmarks.
  3. Attend the annual Board of Directors retreat, as needed, and assist the Executive Director with the development and fundraising training efforts.
  4. Attend monthly meetings for the Board of Directors, and prepare the monthly development report, providing a status update according to the assigned deadline.
  5. Attend the annual Board of Directors retreat, as needed, to assist with training and/or presentations.
  1. Ensure effective and cohesive agency communications consistent with the SafePlace brand standards.
  2. Establish brand standards to include logo, font and image usage that allows for consistent agency publication standards, allowing for reliable messaging consistent with the SafePlace brand.
  3. Design and write various agency communications as needed, or ensure their completion by the appropriate agency representative in alignment with SafePlace brand standards, and provide easy, user-friendly access to staff of all skill levels.
  4. Provide channels of communication for staff to provide feedback and requests for additional resources, templates and information needed for their departments, programs and services in a brand consistent format.
  5. Oversee the successful operation and maintenance of the SafePlace website, ensuring that information is up-to-date and consistent with the SafePlace brand.
  6. Ensure the publication and distribution of community-wide communications to include, but not limited to newsletters and the annual report in a timely manner to the staff, Board and SafePlace stakeholders.
  7. Ensure the successful submission of public and private grants as needed, in partnership collaborative partners, program staff, and other agency leaders.
  8. Evaluate and maintain internal systems of communication to sustain consistency and continuity with brand compliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Agreement with the SafePlace philosophy statement and the ability to complete all job requirements while modeling a personal commitment to cultural competence.
  • At least four years’ progressively responsible experience in fundraising, marketing, public relations, brand management, and/or managing revenue.
  • Demonstrated success in donor or community engagement efforts, soliciting major donors, and/or planned gifts.
  • Experience coordinating large-scale special events and public relations activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, and database management systems. Ability to meet multiple deadlines, manage simultaneous projects, and work well under pressure while maintaining a high quality of work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective public speaking.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supervising, motivating, and coaching high performing teams.
  • Experience researching and writing government or private foundation grants.
  • Experience working with major donor solicitation, and various groups to include, but not limited to: businesses, guilds, service clubs, and religious organizations.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in conducting capital campaigns.
  • Experience creating and writing high-impact direct mail, outreach and marketing pieces.
  • Understanding of sexual assault and domestic violence issues.
  • Experience with DonorPerfect Database.

TRAINING REQUIRED
