safariland is Hiring a Product Development Chemist Near West Springfield, MA

OVERVIEWImprove understanding of all aspects of the chemistry used in our formulations to improve batch to batch consistency and robustness of the commercial chemical formulations. This includes the fundamental processing chemistry of the raw materials, interaction of the components in the formulations and variables impacting robustness over time. Assist in formulation problem solving through the identification of cause and recommendation of controls / specifications which extend to the vendors. Develop new formulations that meet requirements needed for extending our chemistry to new applications. Become an expert in the manufacture of key formulation components that enable the process development and supply of chemicals from new sources. Work with the commercial team to address the technical requirements for new potential applications and develop solutions that meet those needs.RESPONSIBILITIESManage work according to written formulas, lab work orders, and prescribed procedures.Manage the testing of material within specific time elements.Work with the commercial team to manage the technical development side for new product introductions.Manage the Growth Committee Meeting (GCM) process.Operate precision measurement instruments, such as Luminance Colormeter, Spotmeter, HPLC or GC.Develop and adjust formulas.Perform synthesis as necessary.Maintain log of measurement and observation data.Other activities as requested or requiredQUALIFICATIONSMaster's degree (M.S.) in Chemistry from a four-year college or university and a minimum of six years related experience and/or training. PhD preferred.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
