SUMMARYPrimary function is to identify opportunities in operations to improve productivity by implementing ideas which increase automation and output per unit of time. Actively involved in all phases of work process development from idea and sketches through the process implementation. Will be expected to act as a project manager when required to implement projects. Actively participate in select R&D projects when engineering skills are required to support product development or improvements. Responsible for establishing and following timelines, and then executing and making the plans reality. Directly involved in establishing documentation, work instructions, design records, specifications, and facility records.RESPONSIBILITIESWorks with operations staff to determine areas of focus for productivity improvementPrepare a benefit assessment to include project potential, including analysis of workflow/people requirements/outputWorks to resolve problems and develop designUse conceptual sketching and visual aides to express design ideasAnalyze ROI; if it’s a go, create more detailed designCreate models and prototypes of processes for evaluationPrepares detailed drawings and schematicsUse CAD and other design software to perform tasksWorks with external suppliers to coordinate necessary materials and servicesEstablishes documentation, work instructions, design records, specifications, and facility recordsSupervises installation and implementation of machines/processesFacilitates transfer of newly developed process to operations and maintenance by developing SOPs and hands on training in initial stages. Evaluates data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications after implementationOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in engineering or similar discipline with equivalent work experience.A minimum of two years related experience required.Previous experience in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, or food packaging is preferred.Must have previous experience in semi-automated/ automated machine/equipment design, including working with vendors/contractors to bring design to successful operation.Ability to manage projects according to timelines and aligning resources from multiple functions to facilitate project execution.In addition, the ability to build business cases for projects and execute according to budget is highly desirable.Requires ability and experience in creating new designs.Ability to read, write, and speak in English.Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and product specifications.Must be capable of writing technical specifications for processes and machines, as well as writing operating instructions for same.Effectively present information to management.Work with fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.Working knowledge of concepts such as tolerances, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.Basic understand of budgeting from a project standpoint and understanding of payback analysis. Computer skills, including Excel, Microsoft Word, Internet research; CAD (Solidworks or PTC preferred). Be able to interpret blueprints and to create same.Possess sound mechanical hands-on ability.Detail oriented, working directly with prototyping, components, assemblies, testing, and validation. Must be willing to travel based on the requirements of the project (5-15%).#LI-KJM
