Job Description:

The Department of Public Health Program at Sacred Heart University is seeking exceptional candidates for tenure-track faculty position in Public Health. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience.

Faculty enjoy fully-funded 9-month appointments with teaching, research, and service responsibilities, including protected time for scholarship. The department offers a highly collegial environment with excellent growth potential. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty and share our commitment to advancing health equity and to positively impacting public and population health.

The faculty member will teach graduate coursework in the CEPH-accredited Master's in Public Health Program; advise graduate students; conduct independent and collaborative research; promote program growth and academic quality; engage in community outreach activities; demonstrate research productivity by producing peer-reviewed publications, and contribute to the Department's educational and service initiatives. We seek candidates with research interests and teaching experience that complement and strengthen current research programs by the faculty in our MPH program. Experience with public health preparedness is a plus.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Appointments are scheduled to begin August 23, 2023, however, a January 2023 start date is negotiable. For best consideration, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a PhD or DrPH, in a Public Health, Community Health, or Population Health discipline or related field (includes, but not limited to: Health Behavior, Health Education, Sociomedical Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Administration, Health Economics, Implementation Science, Nutrition, Political Science, Population Science, Public Policy, and Sociology).
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

  • Expertise in community health research areas.
  • Previous college or university-level teaching experience, particularly in the areas of public health; community health development; program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • A record of research/scholarship.
  • Work and/or consulting experience with community groups and organizations.
