What you bring:

  • Five (5) years of AutoCAD or other CAD experience with a High school diploma or equivalent, or; an Associate's Degree in computer aided drafting from a community college or technical school, and three (3) years of AutoCAD or other CAD design experience.
  • Expert proficiency in Civil Design (but not limited to): Site design, residential design, commercial design, utility system design, storm water design, wastewater system design, grading, permitting process.
  • Expert Drafting Skills
  • Expert proficiency in 2D CAD: Sheet Sets, X-refs, Templates, Styles, Layer States, Annotation, Drawing Commands, Modification Tools.
  • Expert proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D: Sites, Alignments, Points, Surfaces, Grading, Profiles, Corridors, Pipe Networks, Pressure Pipes, Profile Views, Sections, Styles, Toolspace, Data References, Data Shortcuts.
  • Able to develop plan and profile drawings.
  • Ability to perform quality check and review of drafted products for conformance with CAD standards and project specific requirements.
  • Knowledge of engineering, surveying, and planning terminology and techniques related to completing civil designs.
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision to produce engineering documents, civil/site construction plans, and related material.
  • Experience using Transoft Solutions Auto-turn or Autodesk Vehicle Tracking.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and other software as necessary to perform required daily tasks and office-related operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide leadership, training and instruction to other CAD users
  • Ability to contribute the following skills to the position: leadership, job knowledge, communication, planning, teamwork, decision-making, judgment and problem solving.


Job Summary:

The CAD Designer II transforms complex rough product designs into working documents using computer aided design (CAD). Reviews engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards. The CAD Designer III collaborates and leads design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs. This individual may supervise and guide junior-level CAD designers, technicians and E.I.’s. The CAD Designer III typically can work independently or without supervision when contributing to complex aspects of projects.

What you'll do:

  • Computer Aided Design
    • Prepare geometrically correct drawing files
    • Create and follow all company CAD standards and procedures
    • Implementing company CAD standards for all work products
    • Lead the development and maintenance of CAD standards and tools
    • Input boundary information from surveys and/or legal descriptions
    • Interpret rough sketches from clients/vendors/municipalities/engineers/etc.
    • Incorporate third party electronic data (Architects, Surveyors, Planners, Landscape Architects, etc.)
  • Construction Plan Preparation
    • Create Concept plans and exhibits
    • Layout of horizontal site line work, utilities, and storm drainage systems.
    • Determine road and site grading design
    • Determine vertical design of sanitary sewer, storm drainage facilities and identify conflicts
    • Select site specific paving, grading, drainage, and utility details to incorporate into plan set
    • Review for conformance with proper land development code
    • Create construction document plan sets including site plans, profiles, cross sections and details
  • Quantity Take-Offs / Opinion of Probable Cost
    • Preparation of earthwork volumes
    • Determine site improvement quantities and convert to appropriate arithmetic unit
    • Estimate unit costs
    • Preparing bid packages
  • Project/Drawing Review
    • Revise drawings per "redlines" or "mark ups"
    • Review drawings/CAD Files for proper CAD standards and procedures
    • Review drawings for proper design, previous redlines, compatibility, development code, etc.
    • Follow RWA QA/QC standards and procedures
  • Project Certification/Permitting
    • Prepare packages for municipality/agency submittal
    • Prepare forms for municipality/agency submittal
    • Coordinate with vendors/subs/clients to gather required items/information for municipality/agency submittal
    • Review Shop Drawings
    • Coordinate with consultants/vendors/client/municipal staff on review comments
  • Services During Construction
    • Identify activities/situations not in conformance with technical specifications
    • Prepare as-built drawings and reports for utility/site acceptance packages
  • Client Interaction
    • Send/receive correspondence, attend meetings, and assist in directing client communication when required
  • Training and professional development
    • Mentor and train of other CAD users upon request
