Manufacturing Engineer This position is located in Earth City, MO As an instrumental member of our Process Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Engineer is expected to learn, apply, and grow Ruger’s capabilities in the areas of design and fabrication of fixtures and work holdings, CNC programming and cutting tool optimization, inspections and statistical studies, and workflow optimization. Processes in these areas should be documented to aid the development and training of fellow Associates and build a foundational platform for continuous improvement, standardization, and application of lean manufacturing. The right candidate must be ambitious and self-reliant with a problem solving focus. The individual must also be able to adhere to the Company’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork. Tasks: Design systems and manufacturing solutions for the plant relating to work holding, CNC operations, assembly, and dimensional inspections. Areas included but not limited to: Straightening fixtures and dies Custom inspection gauges Work holding for assembly and CNC operations CAD and CAM for CNC machining programs Tooling selection and optimization 3D modeling and blueprint creation CMM and vision system programming Coordinating with vendors as needed Assist production line MEs to design tools and fixtures for the production process. Specify tools and equipment needed to perform manufacturing operations. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements and equipment layout. Evaluate new processes, equipment suppliers and technology to facilitate continuous improvement of overall efficiency and quality. Act as project manager on all manufacturing projects. Coordinate with EHS manager, city, county, state and federal agencies to ensure compliance with governmental regulations. Participate in training as mandated by OSHA standards. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks. Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Other duties as assigned by plant management. Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline Lean manufacturing knowledge Computer skills in CAM (MasterCam), CAD (SolidWorks), and Microsoft Office Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Awareness of powder metallurgy, sintering, heat treatment, automation, CNC operation, CMM inspection, and injection molding Additional Requirements: Must be able to successfully pass a drug and background screen. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves sitting, walking and lifting up to 40 pounds several times throughout the day. Job requires substantial movement/motion with regard to walking, bending, lifting, grasping and applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms Verbalizing detailed or important information to others accurately Travel Some travel required, on an as needed basis.
