Job Description

The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park in Canon City, Colorado is seeking to fill the position of General Manager. This person will oversee all aspects of this 95-year-old iconic Colorado tourist attraction including day-to-day operational management. 

As the General Manager of our theme park, your primary focus is ensuring guest satisfaction and building a stellar reputation for customer service. Your role involves overseeing the entire park's operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, legality, and profitability. Key responsibilities include supervising and managing various department heads, such as the VP of Operations, Financial Controller, Marketing Manager, Human Resource Manager, and leading a team of approximately 100 front line staff.

Essential Functions include these Key Responsibilities and Key Requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • · Prioritize guest acknowledgment, greeting, and engagement upon entry.
  • · Maintain a positive atmosphere, spirit, and morale throughout the park.
  • · Supervise structural maintenance of facilities. 
  • · Manage the annual and monthly budget/cash flow/forecast of a multi-million-dollar operation, subject to approval by the President, Vice-President and ownership, and drive performance to achieve profitability and sales.
  • · Foster team success by coaching, mentoring, and counseling team members.
  • · Forecast and implement programs to achieve volume and labor goals across departments.
  • · Oversee team member compensation, promotions, and work schedules.
  • · Coordinate weekly team meetings for the entire park management staff.
  • · Be the face of the park to community leaders, provide periodic updates to the City of Cañon City, and serve on local boards.
  • · Safeguard and monitor all park assets, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • · Monthly (and more often as needed) update executive management and ownership about the status of the park.
  • · Ability to work with outside vendors and contractors.

Key Requirements:

  • · Minimum of three years' experience local site or executive-level management.
  • · Live within close driving distance to the historic city of Cañon City, Colorado, 45 miles south of Colorado Springs.
  • · Ability to work 50 hours per week, including evenings, early shifts, and weekends when necessary.
  • · Excellent communication skills with all levels of management and subordinates.
  • · Leadership skills, maturity, technical proficiency, and a proven operations track record.
  • · A track record of civic engagement, particularly within a local community.
  • · Physical requirements include ability to walk the park, work with heights, climb steps, lifting, work outdoors, speaking, seeing, hearing. This is not an all-inclusive list.
  • · Hold a driver's license in good standing.
  • · Technical skills for math and computer tasks (Microsoft programs and all software in use by the company).
  • · Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • · Acquire needed certifications and complete training programs for the rides and gondola.
  • · Ability to receive phone calls at home and travel to attend meetings and conferences requiring overnight stays.
  • · Must be 18 years of age or older
  • · High School diploma or equivalent, Undergraduate degree or management preferred but not required.
  • · Pass background screen.
