Position Summary: This is a part-time position with the expectation of working approximately 16 hours per week. The technician will provide general construction and debugging of printed circuit boards, and wiring and construction of various electrical assemblies. Additionally, they are responsible for repair and maintenance services for electronic equipment and works closely with the staff engineers, faculty, and students to provide technical support on projects.
Work Schedule: Schedule can be flexible with the expectation of working 2 days each week one of which will need to be Wednesday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists with construction of electronic prototypes and setups of electronic laboratory equipment
    • Includes assembling printed circuit boards, wiring, terminating cables, and light fabrication.
    • Also includes setting up various electronic test instruments for bench tests and experiments.
  • Works autonomously on portions of projects managed by others to develop solutions for either the product or process being designed, or to develop solutions to support issues such as test and validation of performance.
  • Provides general oversight of electronics laboratories and shop to maintain order, inventory and safety.
  • Mentors student interns on design ideology and assembly techniques
    • Provides feedback on design for manufacturability issues
    • Provides training on assembly techniques
  • Provides maintenance, repair and calibration of laboratory instrumentation
  • Assists with the purchase of electronic components and supplies
  • Stays current with operation and use of all laboratory equipment as it is upgraded or acquired

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree in electronics technology required, Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of 1-2 years’ related experience required experience in military electronics or avionics, experience with troubleshooting modern electronic equipment and the construction of electronic prototypes are all preferred; knowledge in as many of the following areas is highly desired: analog electronics, digital logic, high density surface mount technology, printed circuit board fabrication, electronic test and measurement instrumentation.
