Job Title: Accounting Manager

Department: Accounting

Reports To: Controller

Summary

Plans and directs accounting activities within a finance department or division of an organization by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Directly oversee and mentor Accountants and Accounts Payable Personnel. 

• Lead the interview and hiring process of new accounting personnel. 

• Ensure that each Property has the financial requirements and package production needs documented and maintained. 

• Track the production process of Property Financials and ensure delivery to clients by date specified in management agreement. 

• Prevent any monetary losses due to theft.

• Assist Controller in daily banking activities. 

• Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques.

• Assist Controller in the tracking and billback of Corporate Reimbursables from the properties 

• Work with Controller to distribute property accounting responsibilities appropriately throughout department. 

• Assist Accountants in complex or non-regular accounting needs from ownership or operations. 

• Complete Property Financials as needed during transition, understaffing, or for assistance to hit deadlines.

• Assisting Controller in the research and implementation of technology to streamline the process of receiving invoices, matching purchase orders and issuing payments. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

• Directly Oversees (5) Accountants and (5) Accounts Receivable personnel.

Critical Competencies: 

• Possess strong knowledge of GAAP and its applications. 

• Ability to develop/maintain accounting systems and processes. 

• Ability to coach, mentor, and train accounting staff. 

• Ability to talk to directly to clients on complex accounting issues.

• Ability to explain accounting issues to non-accounting personnel. 

• Ability to implement departmental changes. 

• Comfortable with technology and ability to implement new tools. 

Education Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

• 5 Years Accounting Experience

• 3 Years Experience in a Supervisory Role

• Real Estate Accounting Experience a Plus but not required (Yardi, Entrata, OneSite)
