Information Systems Engineer (Full-Time)

SALARY:

$69,200-$89,900 per year, the posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU’s compensation plan. RVU’s full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Montana Information Systems Engineer works directly with the IT Manager to ensure technical systems maintain a high level of performance. Participates in the technical design, implementation and maintenance of Rocky Vista University's technology infrastructure. The infrastructure is comprised of varying hardware systems, enterprise level software applications, operating systems, computer/network environments, simulation lab equipment, and system management tools all critical to the success of Rocky Vista University's faculty, staff and students. Duties will include the design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment to maintain a high level of cybersecurity within the university technical systems.

Essential Job Functions

• Works with IT Manager to perform system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and desktop operating systems, Active Directory, Office 365, VMWare, Microsoft SQL Server, IT security best practices, infrastructure monitoring tools, and cloud applications.
• Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
• Redesign and configuration of operating systems and systems applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications.
• Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots hardware and software for network operations.
• Keeps technical infrastructure operating efficiently by performing necessary patching, upgrades and repairs. This includes and is not limited to servers, computers, audio visual, and network equipment
• Identifies methods, solutions, and provides leadership in order to provide a high level of service to faculty, staff, students, and guests.
• Establishes and manages user accounts in Active Directory and Office 365 environments.
• Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on computer systems.
• Provides server support related to other software.
• Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical technical resources.
• Provides team leadership to AV/Staff.
• Works with IT Manager to hire, train, evaluate AV staff. Provides work direction to AV staff.
• Works to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature, and user abuse.
• Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations. Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.
• Develops tools, procedures, and training documents for students, staff and faculty.
• Provides training sessions for students.
• Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for Rocky Vista University (RVU) to take advantage of new technology.
• Responsible for coordination of the construction, maintenance, and expansion of RVU’s residency program computer and network systems.
• Manage and support the University’s VoIP phone system.
• Assist with maintenance and support of classroom technology.
• Works with IT Manger to consult, design and install audio/ visual systems.
• Perform end-user support including problem determination, problem resolution, and implement problem escalation and tracking as required.
• Support smart phone connections to email system for calendars, email and contact synchronization
• Maintain inventory and work with vendor’s warranty service and hardware support contracts
• Maintains accurate and timely troubleshooting notes in service ticketing system.

Marginal Job Functions

• Assist administration, faculty, and staff in special projects as needed.
• Participate in community and professional outreach activities on behalf of the college and university.
• Serves as back-up AV technician.
• Serves as back-up to IT Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge in Microsoft server and desktop platforms.
• Advanced knowledge in supporting wired/wireless networks and basic networking protocols including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, WAN/LAN, and TCP/IP.
• Experience in virtualized server environments working with VMWare.
• Experience with cybersecurity protocols.
• Experience in IS infrastructure planning and development.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 3 years experience building, configuring and managing Microsoft Operating systems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Offerings (Email, One Drive, Teams, SharePoint, Software Suites)
• Experience with or supporting wired/wireless networks and basic networking protocols including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, WAN/LAN TCP/IP

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or Higher
• CNG Computer Networking Courses
• Cisco Certificate, AUCMU
• Firewall management experience (vLANs, Ruling)
• Experience with GPO creation and management
• Experience with Office 365 Azure
• Working knowledge of virtual infrastructure services (VMware)
