Uniformed Patrol Officer (Evening/Overnight Shift)

Rockhurst University Department of Safety and Security is a growing and progressive agency seeking a full-time Officer in the Uniformed Patrol Division. Rockhurst University is a Catholic Jesuit University serving 3,000 students in the business and cultural center of Kansas City, Missouri. Rockhurst University is a comprehensive university offering more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs taught by nationally recognized faculty. Rockhurst University employs approximately 500 faculty and staff.

Rockhurst Department of Safety and Security Officers carry a Class A Private Officers License and are classified as Patrol Agents under Title 17 and Chapter 84 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. This is defined as an armed, uniformed officer with the ability to arrest, detain, deter, or prevent crime by implementing various law enforcement methods. On occasion, and in line with the department's commitment to the University, Mandatory Assigned Overtime may be required. The needs of the University will always be the ultimate guiding factor in assigning mandatory overtime. This safety measure is for both those being served and the Security personnel performing the on-duty security function.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Responsibilities include Uniform Patrol, but are not limited to:

  • Patrolling the campus by vehicle, golf cart, bike, and/or foot.
  • Patrolling the surrounding neighborhood by vehicle.
  • Locking/unlocking various facilities,
  • Escorting individuals to class/parking lots,
  • Responding to alarms,
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency public safety calls,
  • Conducting criminal and/or internal investigations,
  • Completing reports related to internal events or reported crimes and
  • Protecting individuals and campus property using innovative strategies.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements Include:

  • A high school diploma or GED Certificate
  • Possess a valid drivers license
  • Law Enforcement, Public Safety, and/or Security experience is preferred.
  • Certification or the ability to be certified in CPR with AED and Basic First Aid
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Teams, and Outlook
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Candidates will learn how to apply the philosophy of Community-Oriented Policing successfully.
  • Candidates must pass a written exam, oral interview, background investigation, physical examination, and a drug screen test.
  • Candidates must qualify for an armed, uniformed officer license through the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, upon 45 days of initial hiring and annually.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record and have their driving records checked annually.
