Rivian Automotive is Hiring a Metrology Engineer Near Normal, IL

This is what you’ll do:

  • Develop novel methods to accurately and precisely measure automotive components, assemblies, and complete bodies
  • Dimensionally inspect parts using a variety of contact and non-contact metrology equipment (vision systems, CMM, 3D laser, and blue light scanners)
  • Create clear and precise inspection reports for various types of metrology equipment and measurement studies
  • Assist with analysis of measurement results in order to facilitate and expedite problem solving and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes
  • Create and maintain automated, production-ready metrology programs for dimensionally inspecting automotive components and assemblies (Polyworks programming preferred)
  • Perform measurement system analysis studies (Gauge R&R) for metrology equipment
  • Accurately read and interpret drawings and CAD (Catia preferred) models
  • Lead standardization and optimization of production measurement methods and techniques
  • Mentor junior associates and help create internal training plans
  • Assist in the creation of metrology standard work, maintenance, and operational documentation
  • Perform other functions as required

This is what you’ll need:

  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience with contact (CMM, etc.) and/or non-contact (Laser scanning, etc.) metrology equipment (or 4 year technical degree and 2 years of metrology equipment experience)
  • Prefer advanced Polyworks inspection software programming experience
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Skilled at Statistical Process Control
  • Must have strong attention to details
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Must be able to think analytically
  • Must exhibit resourceful and creative problem solving skills
  • Must have ability to create clear technical reports
  • Practical skills with Microsoft Office, email, or similar tools

Nice to have skills:

  • Skilled at deployment and application of torque, calibration, and torque tooling in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
