The Infection Control Nurse coordinates and provides total nursing care for residents and provides supervision and guidance to clinical staff members in relation to Infection prevention and control. The Infection Control Nurse (RN) cares for residents under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing. This position requires patience, compassion, and a desire to care for seniors in a gentle and empathetic manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Collecting, analyzing, and providing infection data and trends to nursing staff and health care practitioners
  • Consulting on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies
  • Providing education and training; and implementing evidence-based infection control practices
  • Monitors practices to ensure consistent implementation of established infection prevention and control policies and procedures based on current standards of practice.
  • Monitors implementation of standard precautions that constitutes the primary strategy for preventing healthcare-associated transmission of infectious agents among residents and healthcare personnel.
  • Implements transmission-based precautions for residents who are known to be or suspected of being infected or colonized with infectious agents, including pathogens that require additional control measures to prevent transmission.
  • Plans for containing outbreaks usually include efforts to prevent further transmission of the infection while considering the needs of all residents and staff.
  • Performs other duties or functions as directed by the Director of Nursing

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Must have a current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Two (2) years experience of training in Infection Control preferred
  • Two (2) years experience in a long-term care setting preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, and other physical demands may be required. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
